‘Slow and steady wins the race’ is an age old adage Ne-Yo‘s latest hit, ‘U 2 Luv,’ has earnestly demonstrated.
Released in May 2020, the song’s Jeremih-assisted music video didn’t arrive until August.
Now, two months after first making moderate noise on R&B radio, the Retro Future-produced cut – which famously samples classic 80’s jams ‘Juicy Fruit’ (Mtume) and ‘Computer Love’ (Zapp & Rogers) – has appeared on the Hot 100 for the first time.

Thanks to attention drawn from the social media sensations #BecauseofYouChallenge as well as a remix challenge to ‘U 2 Luv,’ the latter tune experienced a boost in streams and digital downloads. Alongside current love it’s received from radio, the combined uptick in commercial performance gave ‘U 2 Luv’ just what it needed to officially debut at #88 on the refreshed Hot 100.
The placement comes as Ne-Yo’s first appearance on the chart since ‘Time of Our Lives’ – his 2014 duet with rapper Pitbull – entered the chart in December of that year (eventually peaking at #9 in March 2015).
