Britney Spears was dealt a setback in her quest to have her father removed as conservator of her estate.
Full story below…
For 12 years, the star’s dad Jamie Spears has served as her legal guardian. An order put in place following her much-publisized breakdown.
With the singer now 38 and asserting to be removed from that chapter in her life, she’s launched a legal push to dissolve her father’s control over her empire.
It’s set the stage for a clash.
On one side, Britney‘s attorney argues that she is “afraid” of her dad; adding that she would not perform as long as he remained as her conservator. What’s more, Britney and her father are said to have no “viable working relationship” and have not spoken in a “long while.”
Yet, on the other side, Jamie’s lawyer insists he has only ever acted in the best interests of the world-renowned star.
Still assessing the cases put forth by both parties, a judge dismissed Britney’s team’s request for an outright dismissal (of Jamie’s role).
Instead, she will consider future appeals his dismissal or removal.
A continuation of the hearing has been set for December 19 2020.
Pending then, at the request of the ‘Slave 4 U’ singer, financial company Bessemer Trust has been appointed as a co-conservator.
