Exclusive: Victoria Monét Dishes On New Music, Soul Train Awards, & More

Published: Saturday 28th Nov 2020 by Sam

Victoria Monét has had quite the year.

Indeed, beyond penning smashes such as ’34+35′ for Ariana Grande, she’s birthed bops of her own in the form of ‘Moment,’ ‘A** Like That,’ and ‘Experience.’

All are housed on her critically-acclaimed project ‘Jaguar’ and have collectively led to her being nominated for Best New Artist at the Soul Train Awards 2020.

Monét is also nominated for The Ashford & Simpson’s Songwriter’s Award for co-writing Chloe x Halle’s ‘Do It.’

Speaking with That Grape Juice‘s Shar Jossell ahead of the ceremony, the star opened up about the duality of her career, brand new instalments of ‘Jaguar,’ her nominations, and more.

We need to honor and start giving prestige to soul train because they actually acknowledge the black artists artists that we ride for. All of that credibility and clout that we give to the Grammys aka the ässkissing club with their rigged favoritist voting system we need to give to soul train. Maybe then they’ll have higher ratings and make more money to be a higher quality show. But we need to take care of the ppl that take care of the ppl we love. Fück the Grammys , soul train is where it’s at.
