Published: Sunday 21st Mar 2021 by Rashad

It’s a hit-for-hit battle for the ages!

The Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind & Fire are set to face off on #VERZUZ in what may be its most epic showdown of classics yet.

Details inside:

As reported here, #VERZUZ creators – Swizz Beatz and Timbaland – took to social media to send fans into a frenzy with the announcement of the platform’s entire Spring lineup – which includes a rematch, a Mother’s Day special, a Memorial Day special, and more.

While the combatants in the aforemetioned duels are shrouded in mystery (as of time of this report), what’s no secret is what acts will be first to show off their hits on #VERZUZ this season.

April 4 will bring with it a bout of legendary R&B classics as delivered by The Isley Brothers vs. Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF).

The former – with hits spanning across 7 decades – are Soul pioneers who have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, won 4 GRAMMYs (to date), sold over 18 million records in the United States alone, and are responsible for the memorable hits ‘Footsteps in the Dark,’ ‘Between the Sheets,’ ‘Shout,’ ‘Contagious,’ and ‘For the Love of You.’

Meanwhile, the latter –  with work spanning across 6 decades – is among the most celebrated groups of all-time.  Praised for their masterful fusion of Soul, R&B, funk, Latin, Pop, Disco, and other genres, EWF has won 6 GRAMMYs (to date), been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, sold over 90 million records worldwide, and is responsible for the hits ‘After the Love Has Gone,’ ‘Reasons,’ ‘Boogie Wonderland,’ ‘Shining Star,’ ‘September,‘ and more.

Meh, neither. I know more Isley Brothers songs though so they get my vote.

That’s crazy!!!(in a good way). It’s way to impossible to decide, both groups are amazing and have so many hits that I listen to regularly STILL. But if I were forced to pick, overall I’d have to go with EW&F, but again I appreciate both groups to much to pick without a lot of reluctance and hesitation. “Summer Breeze”, “Footsteps in the Dark” and “Who’s that Lady?” are a few of my Isley Brothers favs and with EW&F, I absolutely love “Love’s Holiday”, “September”, “Let’s Groove”, “That’s the Way of the World”, etc. I just wish Maurice White was still alive for this, I still miss him as the frontrunner of the group though Phillip Bailey does a pretty good job covering both of their vocals, nothing like the days when both men were at their vocal peaks.

Yea I agree! RIP Maurice! He was the secret sauce and a vocal beast!! We don’t hear high quality male vocals like that these dats.

Both groups are iconic musical geniuses in their own right. But Ima have to go with Earth Wind & Fire on this one.

Can we change the name of this event…it shouldn’t be called “Verzus”…it should be called “Celebration” or something..

Now this is a battle. I love both group/bands and they are to be appreciated because music like this is extinct!!! My choice would be EW&F!!!

Man this is the toughest choice. I’ve listened to more Isley Brothers lately but EW&F has hits for years. I guess it depends on the order they play the songs.
