DMX Dominates iTunes After Death Announcement / Occupies 16 of Top 25 Rap Positions

Published: Friday 9th Apr 2021 by Rashad

Just hours after the death of DMX was announced Friday (April 9), fans of the legendary rapper-actor have turned to digital download and streaming platforms for consolation.

Albeit a common response to reports of the passing of a beloved musician, X’s catalog – unlike some – is seeing multiple entries dominate real-time iTunes charts, including the fan favorite ‘Ruff Ryder’s Anthem’ (which sits at #1 at Rap iTunes).

Besting the likes of Cardi B, Saweetie, Drake, and a host of other current hitmakers, look inside for more:

At writing, DMX not only sits at #1 on the real-time iTunes sales tally for Hip Hop songs but he also occupies 16 of the top 25 positions.

This uptick in commercial activity – when coupled with increased streams and radio airplay in memory of the fallen rapper – will undoubtedly lead to re-entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 week after next.

Keep it locked to That Grape Juice to learn how and if some of the late star’s classic cuts impact the refreshed chart.

Ummm DMX was averaging about 10 million listeners on Spotify. Not bad for a 50 year old rapper who peaked in the mid-2000’s. It’s called paying respect and revisiting his catalogue.

And let’s NOT forget DMX is the first rapper to have FIVE multi-platinum #1 albums in a row between 1998-2003.

They did. DMX was a multiplatinum artist. His music isn’t new. He has cashed in on his artistry many times over.
