Macklemore is opening up about his battles with sobriety.
Full story below…
The ‘Thrift Shop’ rapper, who has been hyper frank about his issues with substance abuse in the past, revealed that he relapsed during the initial stage of the pandemic last year.
He shared the news during the latest episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, adding that he felt inspired by the host’s own relapse admission after 16 years of sobriety.
Speaking on the matter, the 37-year-old told Dax Shepard:
“I really, really resonated with the episode. It was within two months of my COVID relapse, and the disease of addiction is crazy. It made me feel, as someone that had relapsed again, like a month or two before, that I’m not alone.”
The star, who is expecting his third child with wife Tricia, went on to add:
“I have spent most of the last 11 years in recovery and it’s made me who I am. I have compromised my life and other people around me. I’ve done things that I’m not proud of, but I do have that foundational level of 10 years of recovery, and I’m f**king proud of that.”
Kudos to Macklemore for leaning into his truth. Here’s hoping his story helps others heal too.
I’m tired of these drug addict celebrities keep b:I:t:c:h:I:ng about their miserable life. They chose to do drugs and no one is pointing a gun to their heads. So Don’t play as a victim t
So Don’t play the victim to circumstances you created.
Absolutely
You sound so ignorant. Addiction has nothing to do with being a celebrity. Humans make mistakes and addiction can be a disease. It consumes you beyond what you ever intended. And he clearly had these issues before the fame.
