J. Cole is back and unquestionably brought the heat with his new album ‘The Off-Season.’

Unwrapped on Friday (May 14), the LP has been greeted with rapturous applause for its clever wordplay, fiery flow, and elevation of a talent that has long been revered.

With the follow-up to 2018’s ‘KOD’ generating ample buzz, will its sales mirror the hype?

The predictions are in and bring with it the answer.

Full story below…

According to Hits Daily Double, ‘The Off-Season’ is on course to premiere at #1 on the Billboard 200 with:

280,000-310,000
[Sales Plus Streaming]
******
35,000-40,000
[Pure Sales]

It means Cole is in contention for the year’s top sales debut on the album tally. Taylor Swift’s re-recorded edition of ‘Fearless’ launched with 291,000. So, if the rapper delivers within the mid-higher end of the prediction, he will have snatched the crown.

Swift will win by the end of the year…

Artists receive 12%-25% of traditional sales (although many record companies have begun to compute royalties on the wholesale price), depending how established an artist is, sales history, etc. Taylor Swift gets a larger percentage than, say, Brandy.

According to Forbes, the country’s leading financial magazine:

For streaming, “1 million plays of a song, artists receive roughly the following payout from these streaming services: Amazon Music $5,000; Apple Music $5,000-$5,500; Google Play $12,000; Pandora $1,400; YouTube $1,700.

At Spotify, which holds upward of 36% of market share and counted 286 million monthly active users in Q1 2020, 1 million streams will net an artist in the $3,000-$6,000 range.”

The artists with the most traditional sales in 2020: Swift, BTS, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles. Swift was the only artist in 2020 to top 1,000,000 in traditional sales.
