Benzino Slammed For Saying Lil Nas X #BETAwards Performance Was ‘Satanic’ & ‘Irresponsible’

Published: Wednesday 30th Jun 2021 by Rashad

It’s been days since Lil Nas X took to the BET Awards stage to perform his controversial hit ‘Call Me By Your Name,’ yet the 22-year-old’s name remains the event’s most mentioned.

While some have praised the GRAMMY winner for his brazen performance, which included a Michael Jackson tribute and same-sex smooch, others – like rapper/producer-turned-reality star Benzino – believe LNX’s showing was too hot for TV.

Taking to social media recently, the 55-year-old waxed honest about his thoughts on the spectacle – going as far as labeling it ‘satanic.’  Needless to say, his commentary ignited quite the hoopla.

See what we mean inside:

In the now-deleted post captured by our friends at SpadeTV, Benzino (born Raymond Leon Scott) said:

“That shit BET pulled yesterday was lame as fuck. It was too uncomfortable, too irresponsible, too forced and too irrelevant to the awards,” he said. “Homie ain’t even hot like that for music anymore anyway. It’s a shame what all this is comming too. I wish I has the backing to bring the Source Awards back.”

The ‘Love & Hip Hop’ star later insisted he has “respect for the gay community” and didn’t mean to “offend anyone” with his post after also slamming previous instances of same-sex affection on awards shows.

“I bought ol town road for ZINO, he knows every word but all the satanic sh*t I’m just not with,” Benzino added. “I could see if he was pooping [sic] but it was unexpected and unnecessary. I didn’t care for the Madonna kiss either. I could see if they way dating.”

Needless to say, his comments weren’t well received. Look below to see how some social media users reacted:

Irresponsible? Didn’t Coi Leray call him out for being a bad dad allegedly? And also, wasn’t Coi Leray dressed as a CICADA at the BET awards? And, in the words of Joseline, where is yo neck?

My thing is this if you gonna call out Lil Nas then call out every heterosexual male and female that showcased over sexual choreography, songs, clothing ect for a evening event that is broadcasting supposedly “Family television “ like cut the bs and address everyone. With or without Nas the industry has still gone to s*** so there isn’t a resolution until everyone gets called out on their s*** and yes Meg that thot s*** gotta go -redundant and showing that there’s nothing else musically bring to the table and will soon end your streak as your album did.

“Homie ain’t even hot like that for music anymore anyway. ”

And you NEVER were hot. How are you on a show called Love and HIP HOP and I know NOT ONE of your songs???? At least Stevie J has Mariah Carey credits.

Worry about why people wanted a refund for your sextape leaks and less why this burgeoning star is helping little black boys, girls, nonbinaries, trans and every other identity realize they are NOT abominations and deserve to be here.

Stevie J has Faith Evans, 112, B.I.G., MC Lyte, Total, LL Cool J, Tamia, Brian McKnight, Tevin Campbell, Eve, Mary J. Blige, 702 AND Mariah Carey credits.

Not that I disagree with his point, but the Source Awards didn’t exactly celebrate a wholesome image either.

    • KeyLoLo June 30, 2021

Sure didn’t…Source and Ozone Awards was just ghetto and trashy…Both seemed scary to attend back in the day..we can do without them

Lil Nas however does the most though and it’s not because he’s gay as that should be irrelevant but he does continue to do things that scream gimmick smoke and mirrors where’s past Gay icons were still loved and appreciated because of their talent – Luther Vandross, George Michael, Elton John, Sam Smith (before doing the most too lol) Meshell Ndeocello ect another classic singer is Sylvester lord he was loved and nobody cared bout their sexualities because they had “Talent” to back their naysayers off and overall keep everyone regardless enjoyed by their music but Lil Nas still young has much to learn and only time will tell honestly 💯

    • Ace Blanks June 30, 2021

Exactly. lol Thank you!!!! He acting like he the first black gay artist!!! Like we’ve beeeeeen had that! It’s not about the gay s***. It’s about the gay s*** being a gimmick to make up for the lack of talent!!!! That’s why I can’t stand him because his talent is trash!!!! Nowhere near the caliber of the people you mentioned. Like that gimmick s*** pisses me off when he’s taking a spot from actual black gay boys with REAL talent!!!! Now if he was doing the gay kiss and the talent was out of this world then I definitely would be here for it! But that’s not the case!!!!

  10. Bow Down June 30, 2021

I see no error in what he said…maybe with HOW he said it but ultimately he’s right.
Let your talent speak for itself.
Those objecting his feelings toward the matter are the same ones refusing to acknowledge that Lil’ Nas X really is a mediocre artist with too much ego to start off with.

    That is all.

    • Ijs June 30, 2021

The way I see it, there have been many of talentless, less than mediocre, white bubble gum gimmicks who’ve received undeserved accolades, legions of fans and millions of dollars. Why is it such a big problem when a black kid finally is able to do it too?

    • Ace Blanks June 30, 2021

Yessssss facts!!!!! It’s the mediocrity for me. And I guarantee Lil Nas X think he the best performer/music artist on the planet right now. That 19 weeks at #1 was a fluke!!!! All sympathy with him experiencing racism on the country charts at the beginning of his career. But he swear that make him the GOAT! Literally a basic music artist and performer!

  11. Whatever… June 30, 2021

Benzino has no credibility. This selective rage from him and others is not only beyond hypocritical, it’s comical. Benzino is a heavy participant in the degradation of the black community. His entire career has been way more irresponsible and demon inducing than any performance from a harmless gay t*** rapper.

Black gays love to promoting S T D s💅🏿 That’s their ultimate goals

    • Shayla Queen™ 👑 June 30, 2021

  15. Bow Down June 30, 2021

Well for me being someone who is black, and PRO-Black at that, I don’t take issue with the fact that he is a black man receiving this type of success. I revere him with the same sentiment as I revere someone like Selena Gomez. Is creative! Yes. A lot of her songs are catchy and cute to put on when you need a vibe but is she talented as her other counter parts like demi lovato or Miley Cyrus? Absolutely not. And that opinion stretches out to yonder form various reasons and the same can be said for LNx. Yes he has a creative eye and yes he can produce a catchy tune but the message isn’t clear and it’s honestly kind of played out because he isn’t the first artist to come along and be openly gay as a black man in this industry. A lot of folks just chose not to pay attention to the ones before him trying to break the surface that actually had SOMETHING substantial to the say. And that’s where the real issue lies. We need to ask ourselves, are we applauding him for his genuine talent or for his “bravery” and being gay in an industry where it is not so taboo for one to be as open anymore? Because if that’s the case we can applaud so many other real life hero’s that we see on a day to day basis that are encountering the same issues instead. Frank Ocean came out as gay and that was more groundbreaking because at the time NO ONE expected it and such men were still looked down upon in hip-hop more than now. He then made up for it with ground breaking music and albums that followed after that were DESERVING to genuine talent and not because he chose to strut like Madonna on a stripping pole in hell. I think the industry and consumers are starved and ready for something new and fresh and for me, what LNx is doing, is nothing new or fresh of the sort.

    • Ace Blanks June 30, 2021

Couldn’t agree more with all of this!!!! He’s being applauded for bravery and that’s it. And people wanna be so “woke” they overlooking his mediocrity but for me I can’t get with it. I don’t give a f*** about the bravery and I’m gay myself. I won’t an artist representing my community to actually have talent! If you a music artist you need to be talented on top of that and he ain’t got it. At least Selena Gomez can kinda perform and does produce catchy songs. He’s definitely more stale than a bag of chips!

      • Bow Down June 30, 2021

Absolutely. From one artist to another…Respect!

Sir, ur daughter said u don’t take care of her and a ain’t s*** as n****…

    That’s satanic!!!

  18. J June 30, 2021

As much heterosexual propaganda we’ve had to deal with our entire lives, I have not one issue with Lil Nas X showing you how gay people express their love to each other in a performance.

And the SOURCE awards? Really? All that show was good for was beefs and n***** getting shot up every year lol

    Good grief

  19. yababba June 30, 2021

the bet awards aint nun but rituals to the massas now i want the smoke

  20. Mo July 1, 2021

I think the performance was lame as hell and inappropriate and not BET style at all! And disrespectful to Michael J. LNX is nowhere on that level! Benzino is right for expressing that. And yes please bring back some realness like the source awards!

  21. Plug July 1, 2021
