Moments ago on social media, the performer broke down in tears as she unpacked how the hate she’s receiving is affecting her. She told fans:
“Sometimes I feel like the world just don’t love me back.
For the most part, it doesn’t bother me. It’s just that when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower. My patience is lower. I’m sensitive and it gets to me.
If you don’t like me. Cool. If you don’t like ‘Rumors.’ Cool. But a lot of people don’t like me because of how I look.”
She went on to specifically point out the racist and fatphobic remarks she’s been at the receiving end of.

If this comment section is even a tiny bit of what Lizzo has had to deal with then I can completely understand why she might feel overwhelmed right now. You can tell Lizzo triggers a lot of s*** in other people, feelings on their own unworthiness etc. There are so many overweight famous men, some who even make jokes/careers about it, who don’t face this ‘fake concern’ that Lizzo has to navigate.
Its weird at best and heartbreaking at worst. She’s basically not ‘allowed’ to celebrate who she is until people outside of her deem her worthy of her own self-love OR until she expresses distaste with herself – don’t people see how sadistic that is.
I hope she learns and is able to handle the fact that as long as she lives for herself, unevolved people will always have this reaction where they want to break her down — but also how that is okay, they don’t matter.
