Alongside the long-awaited premiere of the Aretha Franklin biopic, the Jennifer Hudson-led ‘Respect,’ came its equally anticipated soundtrack (as we reported here).
An 18-track affair, the project sees Hudson tackle some of Franklin’s most prized hits – including ‘Think,’ ‘I Say a Little Prayer,’ ‘Ain’t No Way,’ and, of course, ‘Respect.’ Yet, the effort’s bid for an Original Song Academy Award comes courtesy of the Gospel-tinged ‘Here I Am (Singing My Way Home).’
Dropped the same day as its parent project (August 13), the black-and-white clip sees Hudson revisit The New Temple Missionary Baptist Church – the very location Aretha recorded her iconic ‘Amazing Grace’ album in 1972.

I thought the movie was good even though I didn’t feel like I was watching Aretha, but that’s more because of the script and direction. Jennifer did what she was supposed to. She made the movie enjoyable and carried it well with the passion and sincerity she put into her scenes. I’m most impressed with Marlon! I laughed at his part and Mary J. Blige in the trailer, but Marlon was seriously excellent. I was already a fan and now I’m anxious to see him do another dramatic role. I hope he’s not overlooked in the awards season.
He won’t be overlooked as they have to let black people win based on their skin and not on their talent.
Self hatred……tsk tsk tsk. Sucks to be you!
She did great.
