Check out MJ Rodriguez, who shines in the new digital issue of Shape Magazine.

Bulldozing barriers across multiple fields, the 30-year-old is undoubtedly most notable for her role in FX’s groundbreaking series ‘Pose.’

Indeed, her performance as lead Blanca Evangelista saw her make history as the first trans woman to nab a nomination in a major acting category at the Emmys.

Ahead of the big night, Rodriguez is opening up about what the moment means to her, her new single ‘Something To Say,’ and more.

Full story below…

On ‘Pose’ & Her Emmy Nod:

“Being part of a historic show meant a great deal to me. It meant that our lives, our story, was being centered on and didn’t consist of just one individual from the trans community — it was a collective. It showed that the world was changing.”

On New Single ‘Something To Say’:

“I’ve wanted to delve into music for a long time. Now people get to hear Michaela Jaé and see the person outside Blanca and Mj, the actor. And I get to write music about joy, hope, and togetherness.”

On Gratitude:

“Being an Afro-Latina trans woman in America is hard. I take 15 minutes alone to appreciate the life that has been given to me and to figure out how I can move the needle forward every day.”
