Some of Syleena Johnson‘s biggest hits may have come from the pen of R. Kelly, but – as she revealed during a recent ‘Cocktails with Queens’ episode – that doesn’t make her a fan or supporter of his.
As the embattled R&B legend awaits sentencing after being found guilty for sex trafficking in September (as we reported here), Johnson expressed her belief mental health treatment would be a more suitable remedy for his crime than imprisonment.
Look inside to hear how she weighed in on the hot topic and caused quite the conversation herself.

In footage captured by our friends at TJB (seen above), Johnson said:
“I don’t think he needs to be in jail, I think he needs to be in an insane asylum.”
Elaborating on her suggestion, she explained:
“Don’t get it twisted, I think he needs to be in a straitjacket. I think some of the behavior that has been going down has been erratic and I think that a lot of Black men in jail have been misjudged. Like, a lot of them. I had a friend that went to jail, long time ago, he said his roommate was so damn crazy. He said that went on a lot in jail.”
And while some of the FOX Soul show’s other panelists disagreed and argued Kelly is ‘not crazy,’ Syleena maintained her stance.
“Because what they do, is they throw Black men in jail. They just throw everybody in jail. If you’re crazy…everybody go to jail. But this dude needs real help. He needs to be in an insane asylum. Real talk. Meds, drugs to the point where like, constant therapy.”
Then syleena Johnson take the stand for him at the trial
If he had atoned, turned him self in and thrown himself upon the mercy of the court, Syleena would be correct. But he did the exact opposite, so he should go to prison.
He is or was a rich man … nobody said he has a criminal record, he may not know fully what is happening to him or what to do.
