The ‘Shape Of You’ singer has topped the coveted Billboard 200 chart with his latest release ‘= (Equals).’
The project debuts with 118,000 equivalent album units, with 68,000 units coming from traditional album sales and 46,500 units from streams (equaling 61.69 million on-demand streams of the album’s songs).
‘=’ is Sheeran’s first #1 album since 2019’s ‘No. 6 Collaborations Project.’ In total, Sheeran has scored four #1 albums, including his most recent effort. He topped the chart with his albums ‘Multiply,’ ‘Divide,’ and the previously mentioned ‘No. 6.’
‘=’ was promoted on a series of stages, including: NPR‘s ‘Tiny Desk Concert’ series as well as an appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live.’
The album was preceded by the singles ‘Bad Habits,’ ‘Shivers,’ and ‘Overpass Graffiti.’
Less than his collabs album which he kept insisting wasnt a real album, when it had like 10 music videos, multiple radio singles and playlist pushing with the most high profile collabs in ages 😂
He shouldve called that “-“ and that would conclude his 4 albums quadrilogy then put this out as a throw away album to be an excuse for an underperformance.
Sidenote: im not an ed hater, i just dont like that he has a hyper focus on chart success and numbers in literally every interview and in his last era kept calling the collabs album “not a real album” to compensate for its expected underperforming compared to his last albums. Truth is divide was his peak and he knew it, and he went super commercial with the collabs as that led to “=“. Will be interesting to see if he goes back to basics with the next one and continues a downtrend (numbers wise).
