Everybody’s talking about ‘Can We Talk.’
The signature song of 90’s singing sensation Tevin Campbell, ‘Talk’ is already spoken of by many as a modern R&B classic.
Now, nearly 30 years after first rising to the top 10 of the Hot 100, the tune is getting its flowers in a unique way – this time thanks to a celebrity-driven, viral singing challenge that sees some of entertainment’s most familiar faces try their hands at the Babyface-penned bop.
Hop inside to see the likes of Anthony Anderson, Tank, Tori Kelly, Mario, and even Tevin Campbell himself show off their vocal chops in tribute to ‘Talk.’
Playfully reacting to the buzz around the jam, Campbell took to Instagram Stories with:
“How y’all gone ask the originator to join in on the challenge?”
That’s not all! The renewed attention has helped drive sales of the original cut so far upward it’s broken ground on the current iTunes R&B chart’s top 40!
Besting a number of modern-day hits, the reignited interest – when coupled with increased streaming activity – could spell a re-entry in next week’s Hot 100!
Can ‘Can We Talk’ find space on the hit list nearly 30 years after it peaked at #9?
Great song for a challenge, but none of the singers come close to Tevin’s vocal. I dare them to try “Tell Me What You Want Me To Do” if they really want a challenge.
