The Weeknd Reportedly Readying Aaliyah Collaboration ‘Poison’

Published: Tuesday 14th Dec 2021 by Sam

With the relaunch of Blackground Records came the long-awaited arrival of Aaliyah‘s catalog on streaming services.

Also promised was new material featuring some of today’s most notable names.

And it looks like the latter is indeed coming to fruition.

Full story below…

Today, fans of the singer – who tragically died at just 22 in a plane crash in 2001 – noted that a track named ‘Poison’ began appearing as available for radio adds on a number of industry platforms.

That Grape Juice can verify that, as at writing, the song is listed as being available for Urban Adult Contemporary radio adds beginning this week:

With that, it would appear that official word is pending.

Still, the song’s seemingly imminent arrival has already ignited debate.

On the one hand, Abel wouldn’t be the first top-tier act to provide their services for a posthumous release. There’s also the notion of continuing Aaliyah’s legacy and introducing her to a new audience.

Yet, there are those firmly of the position that such “collaborations” just shouldn’t happen.

What are…

😂🤣 it’s probably some Aaliyah’s moaning vocal when she was in bed with R.Kelly💅🏿 just gross 🤮 I don’t understand why elderly men are always obsessed with minors

How in the hell do you feel ok with talking sh.t about Aaliyah like that after you know what she’s been through as a minor and how she died. you are trash and disgusting !!!

This gives me bad taste vibes… I wish it was an AaliyahxMissyxTimbaland project and not a mishmash money-grabber thing. I just hope it would be done. in a good taste… kinda sad …😟

      Honestly they didn’t own AALIYAH

They were her most frequent collaborators but I’m tired of this argument

I don’t really agree with reopening her vault though but they did already in 2002.

I think they would give it the most care and consideration even though Aaliyah was moving toward other producers in the end.

They should always be included in the conversation, like they were when she was alive. Y’all got to keep in mind the AALIYAH album was a slight departure from her 90s sound with them…She purposely worked with others while she was abroad and checked in with Tim at the very end of the record.

I’ll admit it’s convenient to have Aaliyah’s music on Apple, but it still doesn’t feel good that Barry is making these decisions without being on the same page with the rest of the family. I hope something has changed and that it will show in future messages from Aaliyah’s official Instagram.

I love Aaliyah but couldn’t give af about her family or what they think as they didn’t seem to care at the time about her being around R. Kelly on a tour bus while she was a minor. Their opinion means 💩

      • AngelKeys December 14, 2021

Totally agree! Give us more music and stuff her family

I have been an Aaliyah fan from day one. I can’t wait to hear more new music and have been waiting years! Nothing wrong at all with continuing her legacy with unreleased tracks. Let’s hope stupid, idiotic people and so called fans don’t ruin this, and prevent it from happening like they did with the album Drake was producing. Also stuff her immediate family, they used her name to make money. No one cares what they want, I think her uncle us doing the right thing now.

    • Whateverrrrr December 14, 2021

I’m glad the Drake project didn’t happen. She would not have worked with him either.

  6. Whateverrrrr December 14, 2021

Shameless! Bad move on Blackground Records part.. She would have worked with Chris Brown, but I highly doubt The weekend.

    • J December 14, 2021

How do we know how she would have felt after Chris hit Rihanna? We’ll never know

  7. KeyLoLo December 14, 2021

Just seeing Aaliyah makes me feel a certain way. I miss her soooo much but I could never get into Da Weekend..never will..I’m rooting for this song though ONLY for Aaliyah’s sake. IF I do listen to it ya best believe I will only listen to her parts, appreciating the fact I can finally hear her voice again esp on the radio. I don’t think she would have worked w him if she was alive though but of course I really don’t know that, just assuming. Anyway I miss you Aaliyah soooo much :'(

The energies between The Weeknd & Aaliyah are completely different. The Weeknd is a weirdo low-key & his music is very dark, compared to Aaliyah who often made feel-good R&B records.

I’m not sure who Aaliyah would have worked with if she where alive… definitely not the Weeknd tho.

  9. LOTUS December 15, 2021

Aaliyah’s music also explored dark, moody r&B and was moving in a more alternative direction including more rock elements, especially in her last album. This sounds like an interesting project and Im looking forward to hearing.
