Janet Jackson Doc Delivers Dynamite Ratings with Over 15 MILLION Total Viewers

Published: Tuesday 1st Feb 2022 by Sam

For well over four decades, Janet Jackson has been a name that has magnetized the masses. And, this past weekend, the Queen of Pop proved why her reign is ever-enduring.

For, with the ratings in, the legend’s truth-bearing Lifetime documentary is officially a smash.

Full story below…

The self-titled special, which was executive produced by Jackson, saw the diva delve into many corners of her life – both personal and professional.

Indeed, the two-night, four-hour event brought with it a succession of bombshells about her music career, romantic relationships, family, and the various hardships she’s had to navigate – including the fallout from the 2004 Super Bowl Halftime Show with Justin Timberlake.

Lifetime, who simulcast the documentary alongside sister network A&E, has announced that it was watched by a whopping:

15.7 million Total Viewers

‘Janet Jackson’ averaged 3.1 million total viewers across its premiere airings on Lifetime and A&E.

It sees the doc become cable’s best non-fiction debut since ESPN/ESPN2’s ‘The Last Dance’ in 2020 with total viewers, A25-54, A18-49, W25-54 and W18-49.

What’s more, the doc’s performance on Lifetime serves as the network’s best non-fiction performance since 2019’s ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ with total viewers, A25-54, A18-49, W25-54 and W18-49.

While A&E, the final chapter of the special (part 4) was the network’s most-watched telecast since ‘Biography: WWE Legends’ with A25-54.

‘Janet Jackson’ also amassed 3.7 million video views across Lifetime and A&E TV Everywhere On-Domain platforms.

As reported, the mass viewing of the doc – which concluded with a tease of new track ‘Luv I Luv’ – caused a seismic spike in the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s record sales.

Oh so deserved!

Echoing earlier sentiments, the Ben Hirsch-directed documentary made for a riveting watch and rightfully positions Ms. Jackson, her story, and her legacy in the regal light she’s long been due.

The encore presentation of all four hours of ‘Janet Jackson’ airs on Lifetime on February 4 at 8pm ET/PT.

Folk can also watch now on VOD, the Lifetime and A&E Apps and on mylifetime.comandaetv.com.

Black women stay winning. Janet is the blueprint

Remember Camicky did a tribute for her flop Cinderella straight to dvd movie 😂. She thought she would be invited to the doc

Happy for Janet. Through all the Family drama & being blackballed, her light has never dimmed. The docu-series was more than HER-Story, it was truly inspirational & made me admire her. She could have easily became very bitter giving her status.

    She needs A SHOW. 👏

She has never been this vocal in tv media until now. Janet should cash-in + make the comeback album. Vegas 👀

More questions need answers lol 😏

Congratulations, Miss Jackson! I figured it was going to be a hit. Even if you’re not a Janet fan she comes from a generation of artists that most people are nostalgic for and is one of the few left alive andstillperforming. We need to honor her and Madonna while they’re still with us because music as we know it simply would not be the same without them and Michael, Prince and Whitney. Now bring on Black Diamond!

But where’s these 15 million people when her album is released?????

    • Onika T. Maraj February 1, 2022

Who’s selling 15 million albums these days? Certainly not Farti B.

    • cory February 1, 2022

You’re just a hater. Your fav could never!

What a stupid logic. Beyonce has 200 million followers, her last 3 projects have all missed the #1 spot, “Homecoming: The Live Album” (#4), “Everything Is Love” (#2) and “The Lion King: The Gift” (#2) which only sold 11,000 copies first week. 199,989,000 still people didn’t buy “The Lion King”. lol

That hater fav can even release her sophomore album but it has the nerve to come for Janet

Lets try and stsy on topic and positive! Congratulations to Janet and her team, what an amazing doc, wish it was longer so much to unpack in 4 hours…. Even less minus the ads… She should consider making something going into depth about the albums I know there’s more bts footage in that vault! Give us it Miss Jackson

What a way to stage your come back, use your dead iconic brother and trash his personality in the previews. I would have respected her more if it was only about her life and if her mom, nieces and nephews along with your brothers that actually have money were in it. How is she different from wade and rob. She needed Michael story to pull viewers, promote a new song. As righly noted where are those 15M when she has an album. Not present of course because alot of the viewers tuned in for the parts related to Michael. Let your brother rest in peace, shame on you.

Girl shut the f*** up with this REACH. Just say you hate Janet and move tf on

  12. Nick February 2, 2022

So @Tasha this what you get from this documentary.? It’s crazy how some people see what they want to see and not the actual true. . Janet never used Michael for her success in the whole 35 career. Sometimes happened the exact opposite .close doors to her because of him . She lost a coca cola million contract Because of the allegations . This documentary praise Michael and the Jackson family and this is something I appreciate to her. She is out there ,the only Jackson left to continue the family legacy. And she is doing amazing job.
I recommend to you to open your eyes and your mind and see what she is as a person and artist and stop being delusional and biter. Some Michael fans they just can’t get over it. Janet is here to remind us Michael to remind us that this family is the most important music family ever existed. Let’s support her not only because of her but for her brothers and sisters too .

Janet is one of the all time greatest. People are STILL checking for her NON-STOP.

  14. Khuziwe Sithole February 2, 2022

Happy for her but I can’t access the doc anywhere because of geographic restrictions. Waiting for someone to put it on YouTube 😔
