Streamed live on Instagram, YouTube, and later, Triller, the Swizz Beatz & Timbaland-curated virtual phenomenon has paired some of Hip Hop & R&B’s most prized performers in a hit-for-hit duel to celebrate their legacies and respective discographies.
As music lovers continue to urge their faves to join the #VERZUZ hall of combatants (see prospective battlers Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson, & more), Valentine’s Day brought with it news the fruition of those requests will come with a price.

Taking to Instagram Monday (February 14), the official #VERZUZ account announced its next showdown – Musiq Soulchild versus Anthony Hamilton – will require a paid subscription to the app Triller.
“THIS VERZUZ WILL NOT BE ON IG. Watch on VERZUZTV.COM with the #TrillerVerzPass (LINK IN BIO to sign-up for a 14-DAY trial),” the post revealed.
After the 14-day free trial, consumers can subscribe to the TrillerVerz Pass for $2.99/month or $29.99 for a year. Needless to say, the news didn’t sit well with many who had become accustomed to enjoying the platform’s offerings at no charge.

That’s not the point. It’s been free for 2 years, why charge now? Especially for Anthony Hamilton and Musiq. No shade they’re talented but not a huge draw for viewers. $3.99 is a lot when inflation is up almost 8%. Welcome to the real world.
