Appearing with author James Patterson on ‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah’ to promote their new book ‘Run, Rose, Run,’ Noah asked Parton about her desire to have Beyonce cover ‘Jolene.’
This led Parton to say:
“I think she’s fantastic and beautiful, and I love her music. I would just love to hear ‘Jolene’ done in just a big way, kind of like how Whitney (Houston) did my ‘I Will Always Love You,’ just someone that can take my little songs and make them like powerhouses. That would be a marvelous day in my life if she ever does do ‘Jolene.’”
The ‘Coat of Many Colors’ singer was then asked if Beyonce was aware of her wish. Parton responded with: “I don’t know if she’s even got the message, but wouldn’t that be killer?”
As of reporting, the ‘Formation’ singer has not responded to Parton’s comments.
‘Jolene’ has spanned generations and genres, as the song has been covered by everyone from Miley Cyrus, to Reba McEntire, to Lil Nas X, and many more.

I love Dolly Parton, and I love this song.
But besides all the racial controversy involved, I just can’t imagine a strong, and absolutely beautiful, woman like Beyonce begging another woman not to take her man.

Matter of fact someone stole her man and you can try to spin this how many times as you want but although she’s beautiful and strong she was cheated..and after she was cheated she blamed the woman “Becky with the good hair” and her sister was the one who proved how strong she was by defending her sister..

And she would make multi millions like she did of Whitney. I never heard of the song till Whitney did it. She made it her own . Beyoncé probably won’t do it or reply unless someone put her on the spot and ask . But doubt that since she has nothing to promote so she has no interviews right now.
Say what you want about Beyonce, but she’s one of the last few who you can depend on to “sang”.

No. People like mumble singing and singing in cursive, and vocals are not a draw any longer.
Summer Walker has an adorable voice & it works for her material. Beyoncé has a harsh singing voice. “Love On Top” is absolutely painful whereas “Girls Need Love” is easier to vibe too.
Although Beyoncé has a stronger voice, she doesn’t record enough late night material. Everything is dramatic w/ her…all the way down to her image. Summer Walker is an escape from all the big budget POP material & visuals.
The fact Summer is doing numbers w/ out all the extra flair speaks volume.
Can’t stand that song. It might be known here and there, but most people out of the US (and Canada maybe) don’t know a thing about a Jolene.
She wants the royalties, you already know 😂
I think that’s great of her to be ok with the fact some singers can take her own songs to another place.
