After grabbing headlines for receiving a sentence stemming from his 2021 conviction over disorderly conduct & filing false police reports, Jussie Smollett stunned a Cook County courthouse Thursday (March 10) with an outburst about his innocence and mental health.
“I did not do this and I am not suicidal and if anything happens to me when I go there, I did not do it to myself and you must all know that,” Smollett, 39, said to the court before he was led away by sheriff’s deputies.
While the presiding judge James Linn denied a number of requests offered by Jussie’s legal team (i.e. conviction dismissal, new trial, etc.), he did grant the former ‘Empire’ star protective custody to help ensure his safety over his 5-month bid.
According to TMZ, Smollett’s in-court eruption about the potential threats to his safety worked in his favor.
“Jussie Smollett will be held in protective custody — as requested — while serving his time behind bars .A rep for Cook County Sheriff’s office says Smollett was given a medical and mental health assessment by Health services, as well as a security assessment upon getting locked up.
A rep for the Cook Co. Sheriff’s Office also says Smollett’s cell will be monitored by security cameras as well as an officer with a body-worn camera. They say Jussie will be able to have time outside of his cell in common areas, where he can watch tv and use the phone — but other inmates will not be in the common area at that time.”

As we reported, Smollett’s sentence also included 30 months of felony probation, $120K in restitution and $25K in fines.
At just 39 Jussie Smollett is aging TERRIBLY! He can easily pass for 40.

Jussie should be in a psychiatric ward getting help for his delusions along with those who are still supporting him.

If they had arrested two innocent white men for attacking him, Jussie would have happily sat back and let them go to jail.
If creating division is your concern, half the population should be in prison including MANY elected officials. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime here.
The maximum sentence was three years in prison for each charge. He will serve 75 days. Jussie got very lucky. To quote the judge, he is profoundly arrogant, selfish and narcisstic.
