Snoop Dogg wants fans to know that the future of Death Row Records is in good hands.
Case in point, he now believes that he will be able to get 2Pac‘s catalogue back on the label.
Full story below…
Speaking with Tidal‘s Elliot Wilson to discuss the acquisition, he said:
“I’m looking at Death Row just depreciating. I’m watching how I’m putting Def Jam back in the light; they’re hot again.”
“People talking about them, and artists signing. I’m like, shit — imagine what I could do with Death Row? … To be in control of the brand means that I got all of the pieces that I need to do what I got to do, from the masters to the publishing, to the IP, to the label, to the logo, to everything. It’s all mine. I’m able to move it around and do what I need to do with it.”
Under the deal the ‘Young, Wild & Free’ rapper secured control over Death Row, including its extensive catalogue. However, as we previously reported, some key albums by Dr. Dre and Tupac were left out of the acquisition. Most notably, ‘All Eyez On Me,’ ‘The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory,’ and‘The Chronic.’
However, during the discussion with Wilson, he revealed that he has secured Dre’s iconic album and is currently working on Tupac’s albums.
“As far as 2Pac’s masters, 2Pac’s masters came back to him last year. But I got a great relationship with his estate, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to be able to work something out … to continue some Death Row 2Pac business now that Snoop Dogg is in control of Death Row. Same with Dr. Dre and ‘The Chronic.’ I got ‘The Chronic’ album.”
Other details about the situation were not revealed by Snoop during this time, such as when the album’s can be expected to appear under the Death Row label again.
He previously bought Death Row in February and currently still works for Def Jam.
Tupac estate seem like its not as active as Whitney Houston estate with her new album. Hologram tour new movie etc. Snoop personally knew tupac so. They should let him do it. But ppl gonna be watching snoop with a like a hawk and blaming him if anything goes wrong.
