Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.
However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.
This week, we want to highlight cuts from Charli XCX, Finneas, Maren Morris, and Taylor Acorn.
Join us inside…
Charli XCX – Sorry If I Hurt You
Fresh off the release of her ‘Crash’ album and the subsequent deluxe version this week, Charli XCX continues her streak of impressive tunes. Appearing on the deluxe version of ‘Crash,’ ‘Sorry If I Hurt You’ is a futuristic dance-pop tune that is reminiscent of Robyn’s ‘Dancing on My Own.’ Further solidifying ‘Crash’ as the year’s best pop album thus far, ‘Sorry If I Hurt You’ is a true pop tour de force.

Finneas – Naked
Having released his spectacular debut album ‘Optimist’ last year, Finneas is back with his first tune since its release. Entitled ‘Naked,’ he quite literally bares it all as he confronts life post-breakup. Beginning with a bouncing pop groove, the song transitions to an arena rock tune halfway through, where the guitar riffs explode on the scene and send the song into the atmosphere. Truly out of this world, Finneas once more proves his mastery over his craft.

Maren Morris – Humble Quest
Maren Morris is back with her first new album since 2019’s ‘Girl,’ which produced the mega-selling ‘The Bones.’ Entitled ‘Humble Quest’ the album contains a track of the same name that is truly a standout. Twangy steel guitar, pounding drums, and delicate pianos anchor the tune as she contemplates her purpose in life. Striking the perfect balance between country twang and pop shimmer, Morris has found the sweet spot and created one of her best songs to date.

Taylor Acorn – In My Head
Having risen to prominence on TikTok thanks to her spectacular covers of classic pop-punk songs, Taylor Acorn has been busy making a name for herself. Her latest single – ‘In My Head’ – proves that it is her time to shine. A rocking, guitar-heavy pop-punk song, Acorn confronts her demons with expertise. Single-handedly bringing pop-punk back to its golden age, Acorn’s ‘In My Head’ stands among the genre’s most notable tunes.
