Moments ago at the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront in New York, it was announced that the ‘About Damn Time’ performer will form the subject of a revealing documentary on HBO Max.
Lizzo trumpeted the news herself in person.
Directed by Doug Pray (The Defiant Ones), the docu-film about the GRAMMY winner has been in the making for some time.
Viewers will see how the star leaped from humble beginnings to one of the most known names in the contemporary music space. There will be an intimate focus on the key moments – good and bad – that made her who she is today.
Lizzo said of the project:
“Growing up I never dreamed I’d get to experience all of the things I’ve accomplished in my life, and I’m just getting started. I’m so excited I get to share and relive my journey with my fans and HBO Max. From ‘Cuz I Love You’ to my dramatic world tour, losing and gaining love, and creating my new album ‘Special,’ y’all get to see the amount of time, patience, blood, sweat and tears that went into this process. It takes ten years to become an ‘overnight success,’ and hopefully I can inspire other young creatives to keep going.”

The as-yet untitled special is powered by Warner Music Entertainment and Live Nation Productions and is produced by Atlantic Films production in association with Boardwalk Pictures and Diamond Docs.
News of the doc comes ahead of the July 15 release of Lizzo’s new album ‘Special.’
