Predictions Are In: Kehlani’s ‘Blue Water Road’ Set To Sell…

Published: Thursday 5th May 2022 by Rashad

Despite taking time to enjoy motherhood and flex their skills as a music video director for other artists since 2020’s ‘It Was Good Until It Wasn’t,’ singer-songwriter Kehlani finally returned focus to their own music by unveiling their first album in two years – ‘Blue Water Road.’

Released April 29, the 13-track project – named after the street in California where it was recorded – was executive produced by Pop Wansel and features appearances from the likes of Justin Bieber, Syd, Thundercat, Blxst, Jessie Reyez, and Ambré.

Met with generally favorable reviews from industry critics and fans alike, ‘Blue Water’ has so far made a modest splash on digital download and streaming outlets – a fate some attribute to the soft rollout that accompanied its release.

In addition to ‘Blue Water Road’ being Lani’s first studio album to head to chart battle without a Hot 100-charting single to precede it, the LP – according to industry analysts – will also be their first studio effort to miss the chart’s top 10 upon its debut.

Forecasted to land at #14, the ‘Up At Night’-housing project is set to move 21,000 total units during its first week of availability.

If the prediction rings true, ‘Blue’ will enter the Billboard 200 with the lowest first-week album sales of K’s career to date.  Its predecessors, ‘SweetSexySavage’ (2017) and ‘It Was Good Until It Wasn’t’ (2020), moved 58,000 and 83,000 units respectively during their inaugural sales tracking weeks.

Apart from up at night fest JB, the rest is trash. I fell asleep listening to the whole album. She needs to be more creative.

“dudes” don’t really buy or stream based on fuckability. “dudes” only stream crap by Future and’em. f*** these “dudes” btw

      • Detruth May 6, 2022

Dudes watch the videos based on fuckability and in 2022 video views help sales. Straight females don’t go around listening to lesbianz like that either.

I’d say girls don’t care whether she’s str8 or gay as long as they can relate to her music they’ll buy it, remember women are more in tune with their emotions than men. So, whoever said str8 women wouldn’t buy her music, you don’t know women!
