Though renowned for belting out chart-topping classics such as ‘Hero,’ ‘We Belong Together,’ and annual smash ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You,’ Mimi has mounted a career-long crusade to be recognized as not only the voice behind the jams – but the songwriter that crafted them too.
Having climbed the uphill battle and reached the mountain top, Mariah has been inducted into the coveted Hall as part of the Class of 2022. – alongside the likes of The Neptunes and The Isley Brothers.
The commemorative Songwriters Hall of Fame 51st Annual Induction and Awards Gala took place last night (June 16) at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.
During her acceptance speech, the diva supreme noted that she read that – of the 400 inductees into the Hall – only 32 were female. In toasting to her own spot as #33, she echoed a saying her father would often say to her: “you did good, kid. You did good.”

This comes right on the heels of the lawsuit filed by the writers of an older song also entitled “All I Want For Christmas Is You” suing for the unauthorized use of the copyrighted title of their song. Hmm, interesting timing.
Actually, she was inducted in 2020. The ceremony was delayed because of C****. It has nothing to do with the ridiculous law suit against her.

Many of Mariah’s greatest hits were written by her and just one collaborator (#1’s Vision of Love, Someday, Can’t Let Go, Hero, Love Takes Time, My All, All I Want for X-Mas, Dreamlover, I Don’t Want to Cry, etc.).
It wasn’t until she delved into hip-hop that she began writing with a larger group of collaborators, but still NOWHERE near the size of the song-writing armies that The Weeknd, Kayne, Justin B, Katy Perry, etc. bring in.
And she’s originally a contralto, not a soprano. She has had nodules on her vocal cords since childhood, due to which she can sing in a higher register than others. I have a lot of admiration for her, she’s a goddess of writing and vocals, she deserved her flowers as the legend she will always be.

A (n exceptionally gifted dramatic) female singer COULD sing in the Contralto TESSITURA, but she won’t be classified as a true Contralto. Contraltos lack androgyny, i.e. they have no feminine vocal qualities. Example: Annie Lennox. Toni Braxton’s voice is deeper than Mariah’s, but you can tell she’s a woman the higher she sings. Mimi is a Light-Lyric Coloratura Soprano—the highest voice type.
