The Pop Stop: Carrie Underwood, Steve Aoki, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Friday 10th Jun 2022 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Carrie Underwood, Steve Aoki, Billy Lockett, and The Aces.

Join us inside…

Carrie Underwood – Faster

With the release of her new album ‘Denim & Rhinestones,’ out today, Carrie Underwood continues to combine her pop sensibilities with her country twang. A prime example of this is on the album track ‘Faster,’ a tune packed to the brim with 80s-inspired synths and a gentle backbeat. In a song that could only be about her husband, Underwood delivers yet another must-hear tune from her best album in years.

Steve Aoki – Just Us Two

EDM savant Steve Aoki has now teamed up with rock band Taking Back Sunday for his most recent single, ‘Just Us Two.’ Heavy guitars, pounding drums, and electronic elements combine together to form a truly groundbreaking tune from some of music’s most established acts.

Billy Lockett – Hard Act To Follow

Rising music superstar Billy Lockett has just shared his most recent single, ‘Hard Act to Follow’ from his forthcoming debut album. Teaming up with GoldLink, the pair delivers an emotive pop ballad that places Lockett’s haunting, yet empowering, vocals front and center. A strong showing from one of music’s brightest newcomers, it only shows just how bright his star can truly burn.

The Aces – Girls Make Me Wanna Die

Indie-pop quartet The Aces are back with their latest single, ‘Girls Make Me Wanna Die.’ A heartbreak banger that arrives just in time for summer, the song is complete with shimmering guitars, a throbbing bass line, and striking drums. An undeniable anthem for the queer community, The Aces have once more proved that they are currently some of the best in the game.

You highlighted the wrong song. “Pink Champagne” is one of her best songs, and honestly one of the best pop/country songs ever made.
