Kelly Rowland continues to advocate for two Black children who seemingly suffered racially-motivated mistreatment from a muppet during a parade at Sesame Place Philadelphia last weekend.
As reported here, the two young girls were ignored as they motioned to get the attention of one of the muppets who passed right by them after high-fiving a White child.
Rowland was among the celebs who made headlines for calling out the theme park for the infraction, which promptly led them to issue a number of statements including an apology.
When quizzed about her thoughts on their response to the backlash, Kelly didn’t cut them much slack. Look inside to see what she said.
“I’m still upset,” Rowland told “Entertainment Tonight” on Monday (July 18) as she strutted the red carpet at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood for the premiere of Jordan Peele‘s film ‘Nope.’
Later in the conversation she relayed, “Did you see that ridiculous apology that they had? When I saw this, it was an extension of what I grew up learning and loving about Sesame Street and Sesame Place, but I don’t know what place this is that I saw.”
The GRAMMY winner admits her intention was not to help the clip go viral, but she didn’t want to sit silence after witnessing the incident.
“I wasn’t trying to give it any more attention,” she continued, “I really wasn’t, but those little girls, they deserve an [real] apology.”
As we reported, the theme park doubled down on their apology by offering the aggrieved family back for a “special meet-and-greet opportunity.” It is unknown if the offer has been accepted.
It’s not just two black girls, quite a lot of footage is now coming to light on Twitter regarding other similar incidents, both by the same costume character and others. One even depicts a child that can’t be older than 2 being violently pushed onto the floor.
