Lizzo has been lighting up the singles charts with her viral smash ‘About Damn Time.’
Will its success translates to the album chart now that its housing LP ‘Special’ has arrived?
The first-week sales predictions are in and bring with it the answer.

Serving as the follow-up to 2019’s breakthrough set ‘Cuz I Love You’ (home to the likes of ‘Truth Hurts’ and ‘Good As Hell’), ‘Special’ also follows last year’s top 10 Cardi B collaboration ‘Rumors’ – which interestingly doesn’t appear on the project.
Still, fuelled by the seemingly unstoppable run of ‘About Damn Time’ and a variety of retail configurations, the album looks poised to open with solid numbers on the Billboard 200.
According to Hits Daily Double, ‘Special’ is poised to premiere with the following sales:
65,000-75,000
While it won’t be enough to best the reign of Bad Bunny’s ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ (which looks set to sell another 100k), it does place Lizzo in contention for a high opening on the coveted count. Notably the highest of her career to date.

Something in the 100-125k range was what most were assuming. Maybe 50-60k of that pure sales. These numbers are okay. But for a star of her stature, they should be higher.

She has been outperformed by LIzzo’s single, which moved to #2 last week and is still at #2 this week. Meanwhile, Miss BeYawnce Payola Credit-Thief/Streaming hoaxer, who still is unable to buy an Oscar for Best Original Song (Gaga WILL WIN her second Oscar for Top Gun 2 song) is too busy hating EGOT Jennifer Hudson and can no longer focus on her career, which is all about nostalgia and the Oldies circuit.

Lizzo’s music doesn’t have the crossover appeal for Urban radio. So her music doesn’t get much recognition there.
She is not The Weeknd, who doesn’t need Urban radio to sell albums. Summer Walker’s “Still Over It” sold more than “Special” despite having less POP exposure.

Numbers aren’t surprising to me. Lizzo doesn’t fit into a box (no pun intended). She’s genre bending and hasn’t built a fanbase like others have said. She has casual fans who prefer her singles over anything. I know I haven’t been convinced to check out any of her projects but you better bet I’m gonna shake my ass when “Truth Hurts” comes on lol.
Flopped! She’s definitely more of ‘singles’ type of an artist for sure. Grammy Ward winning artist at her caliber with another viral hit can’t sell over 100K ….really?!? Hope she invest in a good dietician this go round cuz sympathy can only get you so far.
