From ‘1 Thing’ to ‘You Will Do Great Things,’ singer-songwriter Amerie has a few new things on the horizon.
While longtime fans have pined for more music from the GRAMMY nominee (as she’s not released a body of work since 2018), it seems they’ll have to wait a little while longer as the diva’s traded in her songwriting pen for authorship.
Having transformed her social media handles to a popular book club, the 42-year-old’s Instagram has become a go-to spot for people wanting reviews on the hottest novels of all genres to hit the shelves.
Already a best-selling author herself, Amerie is looking to expand her growing oeuvre by adding her first children’s picture book to the mix of those hot new offerings. Details inside.

Taking to IG Tuesday (August 9), Miss Rogers stunned her 439,000 followers by announcing she’d teamed with Macmillan Children’s/Roaring Brook Press to publish her first children’s picture book, ‘You Will Do Great Things.’
‘Things’ comes as a tale about “a young boy’s imagination takes off as he gazes at family photos, whisking him off on a fantastical journey. Along the way, the boy tries exciting and bold new things, ventures into unexplored worlds, and forms deep connections with his multicultural heritage and the ancestors who imbue him with the strength and courage to make a difference.”
Featuring illustrations by Raissa Figueroa, ‘Things’ will land on shelves March 28, 2023. It’s already available for pre-order.

She’s multitalented.. great writer. I’m sure this book will be nice.. But it just makes me sad how she totally ignored her debut album’s 20th anniversary. All I Have album (entirely produced by Rich Harrison) was released on July 30th, 2002. It’s a classic and both Amerie and producer should have acknowledged 20 years from its release. I was hoping for it to be released on a vinyl or at least a Spotify anniversary edition of it. With a bonus track or something..

True, Rich Harrison first worked with Amerie in 2002 and expanded on HIS sound when he produced Crazy in Love for Beyoncé, but 1 Thing was two years after Crazy in Love. Producers always have their own sound and work with different artists. Was he supposed to ONLY ever work with Amerie? Also, Crazy in Love was nothing like Amerie’s debut album. But 1 Thing IS similar to Crazy in Love so clearly he gave Amerie the bargain remake.

It’s great seeing her and how she still looks like a 10! Her indie EPs were cute and Because I Love It was majorly overlooked and it’s a crime.

There was a time people thought she called out Beyoncé. It was even more specifically about the use of similar vocal arrangements. Amerie implied that other another singer(s) was copying the way she does her “oh” on songs. For instance in ‘one thing,’ she sings “my high heels are clicking towards your door-oh-oh-oohh-oh” she does it repeatedly in between the lines. Then on ‘freaking dress’ Beyoncé does the same thing. “Get your freakum dress on—oh ohh ohh.” But looking back she could have also referred to j.lo who does the same thing in ‘get right’
