Issued as the lead release from the diva’s seventh studio album ‘Renaissance,’ ‘Soul’ was uniquely released at midnight of the summer solstice (June 20).
Immediately making a splash in the top 20 (with just four days of the tracking week), it quickly rocketed into the top 10 and has now reached pole position in its seventh week on the tally.
In hitting #1, the dancefloor jam establishes the following major milestones for the singer:
- Beyonce is now the youngest woman over 40 to have a solo #1 hit on the Hot 100. She joins an elite list that only features: Madonna, Cher, Bette Midler, Mariah Carey, and Tina Turner.
- Uniquely, Beyonce is the first female artist over 40 this century to have a solo #1 hit with a new song.
- With ‘Renaissance’ officially #1 as of writing, Beyonce becomes the second female over 40 to simultaneously top the single and album charts. Ever. She poetically joins Madonna (with whom just released the ‘Break My Soul (Queens Remix)’ on that list. Madge achieved the same when the ‘Music’ single and album reigned at #1 in September 2000.
So how did Bey pull off the feat? Here’s how this week’s numbers stack up for ‘Soul’:
- 61.7 million streams
- 18.9 million multiformat radio audience
- 13,000 digital downloads
‘Break My Soul’ becomes Beyonce’s eighth chart-topper as a soloist on the Billboard Hot 100. It joins:
- Crazy In Love (2003)
- Baby Boy (2003)
- Check On It (2005)
- Irreplaceable (2006)
- Single Ladies (2008)
- Perfect (w/ Ed Sheeran) (2017)
- Savage (w/ Megan Thee Stallion) (2000)
