Chris Brown on Diddy’s “R&B is Dead” Debate: “Respectfully, Shut Up”!

Published: Saturday 20th Aug 2022 by Sam

Chris Brown is the latest name to weigh in on the Diddy-ignited debate about whether “R&B is dead.”

Joining the likes of Mary J. Blige and Jermaine Dupri, C. Breezy – who has dominated the genre for over a decade – has sounded off. And he did not hold back.

Find out what he had to say below…

Via Instagram Stories, Brown wrote:

“When’s the last time you heard a slow song on the radio??? N*ggas saying R&B is dead…respectfully shut the f*ck up! People nowadays want fast food instead of a real meal…DON’T BLAME THE REAL SINGERS OUT HERE BECAUSE WHAT CHANNELS DO PEOPLE HAVE TO SEE MUSIC VIDEOS? BET Damn sure don’t. Neither does MTV. And then the industry be forcing sh*t on the people when the real music lovers know that sh*t is garbage.”

The 33-year-old then added:

“R&B ain’t dead…y’all n*ggas just ugly.”

Do you agree with Chris Brown’s take on the debate? As ever, let us know…

Your thoughts?

Chris, when was the last time you sang without auto tune, live, and without having to dance to make up for not being able to hit a note?

Chris is the KING of Trash music! His music has zero growth since 2013. His music is the reason Diddy said R&B is dead

R&b has always been bigger than rap, but now rap is bigger than R&B. R&b is what rap use to be. Rock&Roll is dead though.

I can’t make sense of what he’s saying.

R&B needs love songs and some maturity Hiphop is over-saturated It’s the top main genre next to Country music IMO POP MUSIC IS DEAD Rock music is just sitting in the middle..For years I’ve been confused about what Pop music is though Lol so..

I know what 80s, 90s and 2000s pop sounds like, but to me it sounds like a mix of just about everything now.

I’m confused about what these artists are saying. In Diddy’s words, real r&b is baby making music. But Faith wasn’t that type of artist and 112 didn’t fashion themselves that way either for the most part. If anything, r&b today is TOO explicit and too much about s-e-x, so Diddy’s argument isn’t making sense to me other than the need for more real singers. As for Chris’s point of view, I don’t know where to start. For one thing, music videos are more accessible than ever before. Mary is the only one who I think I understand in this debate.

Mainstream R&B has become too explicit but the Indie/alternative R&B isn’t and usually has a more unconventional vibe.

When ppl say R&B is dead, they are talkin’ about Contemporary R&B.

“Soon As I Get Home”, “Come Over”, “Anything You Need”, Faith had baby-making songs for days!

The argument about the state of R&B definitely depends on GENERATION and personal taste. There are NEW R&B artists out now such as Brent Faiyaz & Summer Walker who are INFLUENCED by Frank Ocean, Miquel and Jhené Aiko.

With Brent you can hear some 90’s R&B but his music also leans toward alternative, Indie. However since this style of R&B isn’t as Mainstream, it’s NOT acknowledged, although these artists have a FOLLOWING.
