Beyonce fans, affectionately called the #Beyhive, barely had enough time to get acquainted with her seventh chart-topping studio album ‘Renaissance’ before news arrived she was dropping “new” music with The Isley Brothers.
As announced Tuesday (August 9), the legendary soul stars are teaming with the diva for a remake of their iconic, 1975 song ‘Make Me Say It Again Girl.’
Ahead of its Friday (August 12) premiere, the group’s lead singer Ron Isley took to Billboard to dish about how the soon-to-drop duet came to be.

First featured on the 1975 album ‘The Heat Is On,’ ‘Make Me’ not only went on to become a fan favorite at the time but was introduced to Hip Hop heads 20 years later when it was featured as a sample on the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony hit, ‘Crossroads’ (1995).
Now, another generation of music lovers will become acquainted with the tune Friday thanks to the addition of the Queen Bey (as heard in the snippet above).
“Tina Knowles-Lawson [Beyoncé’s mother] was very influential in getting this record started and getting it to the point where we are now. She has a love for the Isley Brothers and her daughter grew up listening to this type of music. All we can say is that God’s hands was on this whole project,” Kandy Isley, Ron’s manager and wife told ‘Billboard.’ “And the fact that they are giving us permission to put it out at this time is just overly special. Between Beyoncé’s undeniable talent and [producer/engineer] Tony Maserati’s superb job at blending her and Ronald’s voices — he made it sound like she was right there with Ronald in the same room.”
The song’s re-recording comes as a “reunion” of sorts for Ron and Bey.
“I’d met and talked to Beyoncé when she was just getting started with Destiny’s Child. When we began recording our new album out here [Los Angeles] last year, the idea of working with Beyoncé was one of the first things I thought about,” he said. “She worked on this just about the whole last year in between recording her own album, doing her vocals for this while she was in the Hamptons.”
When quizzed on why ‘Make Me’ was the best choice for the Beyonce duet, the 81-year-old believes it all due to the magic of the writer – Ernie Isley.
“It’s probably one of the greatest songs that Ernie wrote [co-writers include Ronald, Marvin Isley, Rudolph Isley, O’Kelly Isley and Chris Jasper]. And when we’ve performed the song in concert, the response has been unbelievable. So this was the right song to do,” he said.
All-in-all, Ron is hoping the new version of ‘Make Me’ elicits the same response from fans that it did Bey’s mom.
“Beyoncé’s mother texted us to say how much they were crying over the record when Beyoncé played it for them. Me, Kandy and her sister were together when we first heard it and they were crying,” he started. “Then Ernie and his wife came over and there was crying again. We hadn’t done any crying over a record in years [laughs].”
The track will come as the newest to drop from their forthcoming album due later this year. Other special guests include Drake, Alicia Keys, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, and more.

Literally none of Beyoncé’s R&B ballads have been hits. When she covered “Wishing On Star” it Flopped. Her remake of “Closer” with Luther…FLOP! “Dangerously In Love”….FLOP.
Beyoncé can only sing karaoke songs like “Dance For You” because she is a bland singer.

This is a valid point. Never thought about it. After hearing her sing the first line of this song I wasn’t impressed with her vocals. When Ron came in he was smooth as butter. I’m sure she had some good moments on this track, but she needs to get back to her R&B voice for this one.
