Rap Snacks may have bitten off more than they could chew with the unveiling of the Nicki Minaj “Barbie-Que” potato chips.

Just as Minaj and her fans, affectionately called #Barbz, are celebrating the out-of-the-box success of the Rap Queen’s latest single ‘Super Freaky Girl’ (as we reported here), toy manufacturing giants Mattel have revealed they are not pleased with the use of their Barbie trademark on the Rap Snacks that bears the femcee’s likeness.
In court docs obtained by our friends at AHH, Mattel filed a suit against the snack-makers alleging the use of the Barbie trademark was not cleared before the chips hit shelves. It should be noted Nicki is not listed as a defendant in the lawsuit.
“Rap Snacks never requested or received any such permission from Mattel. Rap Snacks proceeded to launch its product line anyway,” the suit reads before later stating, “Rap Snacks made the deliberate and calculated choice to launch a new product line using Mattel’s famous Barbie trademark. That choice, made without any prior notice to Mattel, was unlawful.”
Citing “one count of federal unfair competition and false designation of origin, one count of federal trademark dilution, and a singular count of state unfair competition violation,” the toy makers aren’t exactly playing around as reports have it they are suing for a manifold of legal remedies including all profits from Rap Snacks’ Barbie-Que Chips to be awarded to them.
As of time reported, Minaj nor Rap Snacks reps have made a public statement regarding the legal dispute.
