Hilarious! Usher Pokes Fun at His “Day 1” R&B Fans Disliking His Dance Jams [Video]

Usher may quite fairly lay claim to the King of R&B title, but what is equally hard to deny is that the superstar’s impressive longevity is partially a result of his embrace of other genres.

Notably EDM and Dance-Pop.

Indeed, who can forget global smashes such as ‘DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love Again’ and ‘OMG’ – both of which helped the stage blazer dominate all over again in the early 2010s.

However, for all this renewed success, Ush’s embrace of the dancier sounds ignited deep debate among his loyal R&B fanbase. For, while some took to the fresh approach, others detested it and suggested the singer had “turned his back” on his core genre. A debate that occasionally rears its head ’til this day.

With humor and charm, though, Mr. Raymond playfully acknowledged this on stage at his My Way Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live.

Full story below…

Stopping during a performance of ‘DJ,’ the 43-year-old made fun of the fact that his “day 1s” in the audience were not turning up in the way others were to the song.

Watch the amusing moment:

Got to love an artist being “in” on the kii and showing A1 awareness.

In any case, Usher’s is a great “problem” to have. And it’s no doubt a “problem” others with long careers powered by reinvention face too. It’s impossible to satisfy all. But what Usher ultimately proves is very doable is uniting all under one roof in celebration of his iconic catalog.

I’m sorry I’ve been a day 1 fan and any time OMG comes on it’s a wrap I’m ready to dance and do the choreo. Sorry to the day 1’s with no taste.

The fake ass fans act like he went full on pop. He remained current but still did majority R&B at a time where EDM ruled the charts. Why no outrage when CB and NeYo were doing similar sounds??

People really wrongfully judged Usher during the 2010-2012 era and missed out on some truly GREAT and CREATIVE music. Sure OMG was on the RVR album but so was Hey daddy and There goes my baby. The Looking 4 Myself album is one of Usher’s most creative albums with banger after banger. His 2008 album Here I stand was classic R&B but a lot people didn’t support it cause they didn’t like the man wife. Then when he creatively mixed R&B with Pop and EDM they wanted a classic R&B album. Some so called fans killl me lol SMDH
