Beyonce is setting the record straight after being accused of using music without permission by Right Said Fred.
And Queen Bey has receipts.

As reported, Fred hit out at the superstar songstress alleging that she used the classic ‘I’m Too Sexy’ in her ‘Renaissance’ album smash ‘Alien Superstar’ sans permission. The group, comprised of Fred and Richard Fairbrass, branded Bey “arrogant.”
Clapping back via a rep, a statement from Camp Bey made clear that the version of events perpetuated is not the case:
“The comments made by Right Said Fred stating that Beyoncé used ‘I’m Too Sexy’ in ‘Alien Superstar” without permission are erroneous and incredibly disparaging.
Permission was not only granted for its use, but they publicly spoke of their gratitude for being on the album.
For their song, there was no sound recording use, only the composition was utilized.
Permission was asked of their publisher on May 11, 2022 and the publisher approved the use on June 15, 2022. They were paid for the usage in August, 2022.
Furthermore, the copyright percentage of the Right Said Fred writers with respect to the use of “I’m Too Sexy” is a substantial portion of the composition.
Collectively the Right Said Fred writers own more than any other singular writer and have co-writer credit. This accusation is false.”
But did she ask the artists to use their work tho?
She asked the writers, which is considered legal.
So she can’t be sued.
They are the writers, I don’t think they own their masters or publishing right but they definitely are the writers of that song look it up each group member is named as a writer. Now them owing the song is something different.
You don’t HAVE to ask the artists s***. They ask whoever owns the rights for permission to use the sample. Bey’s been in the industry for over 2 decades. She knows what’s right and what’s wrong lol. Besides, the artists posted how excited they were to be included on Renaissance on THEIR OWN IG PAGE. The proof is right there. This is frivolous. It’s giving dementia.
you are absolutely right… whoever owns the masters and publishing is who needs to be asked for permission…. even if they did write the song they don’t own it.
Why ask the artist when they can’t give permission?

Based on their comments, they were upset because Beyoncé didn’t ask them but their writers instead.
So they felt it was shade on Beyoncé’s end. On the other hand….Drake and Taylor asked them out of respect, although they didn’t have to ask them either.

I fully understood why Kelis was upset because she is a creative artist and ppl are known to bite her style.
However the bigger issue here is the lack of ownership. The fact Beyoncé doesn’t have to ask you directly, says the artist agreed to a smaller percentage for their own work.
But they already knew they were going to be on the album which they posted on publicly. So I’m confused. Why the storyline has changed. Plus they were paid. So what more do they want?
Like it or not, beyonce knows how to manoeuver in the industry. So you just need the lyrics but you have to contact the performer, the sound engineer too ? Funny part is they got paid so why are they bothered?

She’s not obligated to reach out to every artist she sampled. Beyonce is paying homage to so many greats on Renaissance. Most who have been looked over for years. Right Said Fred made an IG post acknowledging and thanking Beyonce just to turn around and call her arrogant? It doesn’t make sense to me. They in their feelings all of a sudden for what…..!!!
The original artists who performed the music just want a little respect as well. That’s understandable, regardless of who is credited for writing the song. Back then nobody cared about who wrote the songs, only about the artists who made it popular. Obviously, Bey does what’s she needs to do legally, but that’s not what is being questioned in these situations. Artists are allowed to feel this way.
