The Pop Stop: Carly Rae Jepsen, Gracie Abrams, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Friday 7th Oct 2022 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Carly Rae Jepsen, Gracie Abrams, Magnolia Park, Blu Eyes, Surf Curse, and Jake Scott.

Join us inside…

Carly Rae Jepsen – The Loneliest Time

With her new album arriving on October 21, ‘Call Me Maybe’ hitmaker Carly Rae Jepsen has shared the latest taste of what we can expect from the project. Entitled, ‘The Loneliest Time,’ the song features prominent strings as well as insatiable disco grooves. Already a highlight from her album, ‘The Loneliest Time’ offers a welcome return to the dance floor for her.

Gracie Abrams – Difficult

After sharing her sophomore album last year, rising singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams has returned with her new single, ‘Difficult.’ A gut-wrenching pop ballad, Abrams delivers one heartbreak after another on this must-hear tune.

Magnolia Park – Misfits

Rising pop-punk group Magnolia Park have teamed with singer Taylor Acorn for their latest song, ‘Misfits.’ Serving as the latest taste of their upcoming album ‘Baku’s Revenge’ – due out November 4 – the song is complete with roaring guitars, pounding drums, and emotive vocals. While the band may be singing about being “misfits,” if anything, this song proves they truly belong among the top pop-punk bands out there now.

Blu Eyes – You’d Never Know

Singer-songwriter Blu Eyes has unleashed her most recent single, ‘You’d Never Know.’ A touching ballad about the internal struggles we all face, the song is complete with flourishes of handclaps, touches of piano, and traces of energetic guitar chords. With all the makings of a true pop hit, ‘You’d Never Know’ could very well be Blue Eyes breakthrough song.

Surf Curse – Arrow

Indie rock band Surf Curse is back with their latest album – ‘Magic Hour’ – and they are celebrating by sharing their single, ‘Arrow.’ Burning guitars and thumping drums guide the track. While the instrumental may recall the classic era of 60’s rock, Surf Curse has arguably created something just as timeless with ‘Arrow.’

Jake Scott – Good Day

Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Jake Scott is no stranger to making infectious tunes and his latest song – ‘Good Day’ – is no different. A bouncing bassline, handclaps, and fervent horns guide the way as Scott delivers an optimistic message all about living each day to the fullest. Captivating from beginning to end, Scott has created a must-hear tune with ‘Good Day.’
