The social media smackdown between Nicki Minaj and Latto continues hours after its kick off Thursday night (October 13).
As we reported here, the virtual fisticuffs began when the former took to Twitter to vent about her #1 hit, the Rick James-sampling Rap song ‘Super Freaky Girl,’ being moved to Pop categories in the GRAMMYs’ initial voting process for its 2023 ceremony.
After suggesting that Latto‘s breakout hit, ‘Big Energy,’ be given the same treatment by the Recording Academy, the two engaged in a fiery exchange that led to the rising rapstress refer to Nicki as an old bully.
The 39-year-old didn’t let the ageist quip go so easily, however. Look inside to see how she clapped back.
Referring to the 23-year-old (born Alyssa Stephens) as ‘scratch off,’ Minaj revealed she believes the real issue is the fact she passed on multiple collaboration requests from the biracial rapper (whom she called a ‘Karen’).
“Look at how this Karen makes up a fake beef in a passive aggressive attempt to show her frustation about me politely declining 3 feature requests,” she started. “Scratch off is just an entitlted Karen who blames others for her album flopping…”
The album referred to is Latto’s sophomore effort, ‘777,’ which premiered at #15 on the Billboard 200 in April and slipped off the chart 18 weeks later despite being home to ‘Big Energy’ – the biggest hit of the year.
Stephens didn’t respond directly to the flop comment, but did hit back by suggesting her desire to collaborate with Nicki was no secret as she’d mentioned it several times over the years (including in an exclusive interview with That Grape Juice seen here).
“I literally named you as my dream collab multiple times in multiple interviews. Like I told you on the phone, I looked up to you,” she shared before questioning why Minaj was shading her and suggesting the disdain is deeper than the GRAMMY fiasco.
At the time of this report Nicki – who once upon a time referred to Alyssa as ‘dope’ – has not confirmed or denied if the insinuation of a longstanding hatred is true.
