Diana Ross, 40 Years After Her Last Nomination, Could Win Her First-Ever Competitive GRAMMY in 2023

Published: Tuesday 15th Nov 2022 by Rashad

As one of the most revered names in music history, Diana Ross has collected many Gold and Platinum plaques for her classic hits over her six-decade career.

But, many would be surprised to know the iconic diva has never won a GRAMMY in the traditional sense.  In fact, she was 67-years-old before she’d ever accepted any honor from the Academy – and even then it was the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 2023, however, she stands to change this multi-decade narrative.  See how inside.

As revealed by the 2023 GRAMMY nominations (unveiled November 15), Ross is listed in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category for her 2021 studio album, ‘Thank You.’

Competing against Kelly Clarkson, Norah Jones, Pentatonix, and Michael Buble for the honor, the nod comes as the 12th overall nomination of Diana’s career and first since 1982 hit ‘Muscles‘ was strong-armed out of the Best R&B Female Vocal Performance trophy in 1983.

If she wins it will be the first time she’s ever collected a GRAMMY in a competitive category, putting an end to a losing streak that began with her inaugural nomination in 1965 as part of The Supremes.

We’ll have to wait until the ceremony airs February 5, 2023 to find out the result.  Until then, click here to see who else was nominated for a golden gramophone.

    I hope she wins
    She deserves it
Give her her flowers now shes still here with us

The academy has punished her enough. For a career that stans more than 40 years, she deserves atleast 1 win to her name

Really hope Diana Ross wins this! (Still hard to believe she wasn’t nominated for “Missing You”.)

Now see, lol…this is THAT BULLSHIIIT 🤣 Queen Diana should have 20 Grammys! The NERVE when her beautiful, legendary voice helped bring the classic, monumental Motown sound to the WORLD 🎶🌎 SCAMMYS gonna scam 😂💋

Grammy win is most definitely deserved, she paved the way for the divas of today. Grammy academy need to do right by her while she is still with us

Diana refuse to pay the Grammy unlike the others

This is a chance for the Grammys to competitively award someone who’s been deserving for half a century. Hope it finally happens.

  7. Detruth November 15, 2022

Utterly shocked that this legend has not been awarded a Grammy. That’s a broken system.

  8. True Tea November 16, 2022

    Absolutely appalling.

For me, all this does is further expose how f*cked up the Grammy’s is.

Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi has GRAMMY’s but Diana doesn’t one???

Something is seriously wrong with this picture.

Diana comes from a different generation. She debuted during Jim Crow. She walked so that Megan and Cardi could run. Aretha snagged most of the “black woman” Grammys back then. Millie Jackson recently spoke on that. I’m surprised Barry Gordy didn’t have enough pull to get her a Grammy.

Saying “Aretha snagged most of the “black woman” Grammys”

Only strengths my argument that the Grammys is f*cked up because it shouldn’t even be about race.

And making it so…discredits EVERYONE’s Win.

Diana should have an award due to contributions and impact on POP Music.

For the record, Aretha was NOT bigger than Diana during the Motown era.

Diana ross has laid down some of the most iconic pop and R&B vocals in music history. The majority of which did not even receive nominations. It’s wonderful that she received a lifetime achievement award and it was much deserved, but I think this is long overdue, plus the album is wonderful.

Miss Ross deserves to win and the Grammies owe her BIG TIME

If Thank You wins a Grammy? I am praying it does. Winning would be a big deal because out of the Motown years, the RCA years, EMI years, the Decca Record’s album would mean this is an incredible a]lbum. Thank you to all the writers Diana Ross who co-wrote every song. Thanks to Jack Antonoff for guiding the ship and featuring Diana Ross in the #1 Soundtrack with “Turn Up the Sunshine,” Jack’s nominated for Producer on “I Still Believe” from Diana Ross Thank You album. Fresh off her record-breaking sold-out concerts around the world, you have to say that the attendees shattered all records at Glastonbury this summer. One more thing, this Grammy nomination is really the Fans (family) award, and we deserve it finally.

P.S. Diana Ross co-wrote the songs on “Thank You,” and she co-wrote the heck-out of these compositions. The Best News today is Diana Ross getting nominated for a Grammy for an album, not just a song. The other is my new favorite artist Matell’s new album, “Something To Fk With (Mixes),” which debuted at #2 on Amazon’s Hottest New Releases. Something To Fk With is one of two songs, ‘Honest Man.’ These songs were written-exclusively for Aaron Carter. Lets us share and download them in his honor. Aaron would love that; because he liked both; before his untimely death two Saturdays ago.

Diana ross absolutely deserves a Grammy for the beautiful work of the thank you album. This lady has the greatest pop voice in music history and an incomparable back catalogue of Severn decades of beautiful work.please right this wrong.
