While Billboard’s official report about the first-week commercial performance of SZA‘s long-awaited sophomore album, ‘SOS,’ isn’t due until Sunday (December 18), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has already taken to press to announce the 23-track set has met its threshold for certification.

Just a day after its December 9 release, ‘SOS’ dominated Apple Music, iTunes, and Spotify to historic measure – a feat that led industry analyst to forecast it would bow at #1 on the Billboard 200 with one of the year’s biggest openings for a female album.
In addition to its impressive Billboard debut, that reported digital domination led to some major moves at the RIAA as well.
Ahead of news of the set’s official first-week count, the RIAA revealed ‘SOS’ – which features some of the GRAMMY winner’s biggest recent hits like ‘Shirt,’ ‘Good Days,’ and ‘Blind’ – is seeing itself attached to a shiny Gold plaque. The measure denotes Stateside sales equivalence of 500,000 units.
The second body of work she’s released to be recognized by the RIAA, the Gold certification comes just 5 months after her debut album, 2017’s ‘Ctrl,’ was certified 3x Platinum for Stateside sales of 3 million.
