NFL star-turned-wrestling legend Bill Goldberg, known mononymously as “Goldberg,” may have collected his fair share of championship titles over the last 30 years for spearing some of the sports entertainment genre’s biggest names to the WCW and WWE mats, but now he’s rocking headlines for slamming Rihanna‘s epic Super Bowl halftime show.
Days after Rih cranked out her greatest hits to rock the State Farm Stadium at Super Bowl LVII (February 12), Goldberg took to his ‘CarCast‘ podcast to share his feelings about the showing.
“I thought Rihanna was frickin’ horrible,” he said. “I was disgusted by it. That’s all. Let’s just say that. I thought it was horrible.”
His stinging comment echoes the headline-grabbing words of former U.S. president Donald Trump and radio shock jock Howard Stern – both of whom gave Rih’s 13-minute set two thumbs down.

Tired of the criticism, another sports legend – Shaquille O’Neal – followed Goldberg’s commentary by defending Rih from the “haters.”
“All you people disrespecting my Rihanna, shut your face. Shut it up,” he said on ‘The Big Podcast’ (as seen in the video above). “I was there – it was beautiful. She did a great job. I didn’t know she was pregnant until she bust out, but leave this lady alone…”
That’s not all he said.
“We living in a world where people got too much freedom. Keep your f–king thoughts to yourself,” the NBA icon shared. “She did a wonderful job, she’s pregnant, she blessed it, she did her thing, she didn’t fall. Just leave it there. All you superstars that’s disrespectful and causing beef, shut your face. Shut it up.”
O’Neal’s praise echoes that of Nicki Minaj, SZA, and a host of other celebrities who couldn’t say enough good about the Bajan diva’s hit-filled halftime show.
At writing, Rihanna hasn’t publicly responded to the negative comments.

A lot of ppl (like myself) are simply FANS OF TGE HALFTIME SHOW (Regardless of who’s performing) and will watch Annually.
This year’s set was OKay, it gave us something DIFFERENT unlike the weekend which was the worse ive seen in recent years.

The halftime show is just as major (if not more) than the super bowl itself. There were high expectations for Rihanna and she didn’t deliver per usual. Men are allowed to voice their opinions about it. That doesn’t mean they’re obsessed….

I don’t know if the amount of criticism is typical or if every negative comment is making the news cause it’s Rihanna. They don’t have to be harsh about it, but Rihanna truly didn’t seem to care a whole lot on stage. If you look at the rehearsal footage on TikTok, Rihanna’s choreographer stands in for her and does a MUCH better job performing.
I watched the performance on YouTube to see what the fuss was about and I totally get it. Her charisma and energy were lacking. The dancers and production carried her set. Even the ASL interpreter gave more. I feel like she got pregnant on purpose because she wanted her belly to be the moment. Also it gave her a cop out for the lazy showing. Although plenty of pregnant singers have performed and have much more than she did. All in all, Rihanna did what she always does on stage….the bare minimum.That’s my 2 cents on it.
