Miguel’s ‘Sure Thing’ Reaches New Hot 100 Peak 12 Years After Release Thanks To Tik Tok

Published: Saturday 4th Mar 2023 by Rashad

As we reported here, R&B crooner Miguel‘s 2011 smash, ‘Sure Thing,’ is enjoying an unexpected resurgence on the current Billboard Hot 100 thanks to a viral response on social media.

The second single from his 2010 debut album, ‘All I Want Is You,’ ‘Sure’ is widely regarded as the GRAMMY winner’s breakout hit as its original #36 peak made it his first top 40 placement on the hitlist.

Fast forward to 2022, the Happy Perez-produced track exploded on Tik Tok thanks to users incorporating clips of the track on their videos – awakening exposure to a new generation of R&B lovers (and leading to impressive sales and streaming gains in the process).

Look inside to see the new height the song’s reached as a result of its newfound attention.

Peruse of this week’s Billboard Hot 100 sees Miggy printed at #28 with ‘Sure.’  Look below to see the numbers that powered the placement.

  • Digital Downloads ≈ 1,900 sold
  • Radio Airplay ≈ 6.4 million audience impressions
  • Streaming ≈ 13.6 million U.S.-based streams

Leapfrogging over some of the day’s biggest hits from the likes of Taylor Swift, SZA, Drake, and other current-day hitmakers, the new peak of ‘Sure’ makes it the 37-year-old’s second highest-charting solo hit on the Hot 100 to date (following 2012’s ‘Adorn‘ which peaked at #17).

‘Sure’ also becomes his second single to chart for at least 30 weeks.  At present, ‘Adorn’ – with 33 weeks of charting – marks his personal best and longest stay the hitlist.

Man STFU. I Look To You debuted at #1 in 2009 and was ahead of Trey Song. And Miley Cyrus who were both hot at the time. People say anything, I swear. Lol
