Pras Michel, a founding member of the Hip-Hop ensemble The Fugees, has been found guilty of making illegal campaign contributions during the 2012 US presidential election.

Full story below…

The star stood accused of funneling $100m through “straw donors” to influence US political elections in both 2012 and 2017.

Straw donors refer to individuals who make donations to political campaigns on behalf of someone else in order to sidestep campaign finance laws. A practice that is illegal.

Now, following a multi-week trial, a guilty verdict was handed down to Michel in a federal court in Washington, D.C.

In the wake of his conviction, Michel now faces up to 25 years behind bars.

A sentencing hearing is set for later this year and Michel’s legal team has made clear that they plan to appeal the verdict.
