For years, the masses have been calling for Usher to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
And now the man himself is waxing candid about his desire to take to the mainstage.

The performer – who previously rocked Halftime as a guest of the Black Eyed Peas in 2011 – was quizzed by Access Hollywood about the chatter around him nabbing a headline slot at next year’s spectacle.
Speaking about calls for him to headline ‘Halftime,’ Usher said:
“I’d be a fool to say no. Well, I mean, you know, things line up that we would all hope. You know, one day, that moment will happen.”
Continuing, he added:
“What I am thankful for is the fact that there’s even any conversation about me — period. I feel humbled that at this age and this juncture of my life, people still have to ask the question, (even) after all of the No. 1s that I’ve had and all the diamond (selling songs), that I have enough records to perform 15 minutes. If I were ever asked to perform at the Super Bowl, of course I would definitely be into it.”
Now powered by Apple Music, this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show was toplined by Rihanna.
We know we’d be all sorts of here for Usher. Beyond the fact he already meets (and exceeds) every metric required for the gig, his current Las Vegas residency is making abundantly clear that his showmanship is exactly what Halftime needs.

Why not? Bruno Mars, Madonna, Maroon 5 have all headlined recently and none of those are R&B? Don’t forget Shakira x JLo, and Beyonce is more pop than R&B. Why shouldn’t Black and artists of colour share in the biggest music platform on the stage?
It’s a combination of who’s available and who is capable of putting on a good show- I don’t think Adele could captivate the audience (although I love her), BTS have just gone on hiatus, Dua Lipa isn’t good live. Perhaps a country star like Miranda Lambert or Carry Underwood or even Kelly Clarkson could put on a good show but it should be about quality and a tie to the location.
He’s been robbed for this opportunity for years, just like the MTV Michael Jackson Vanguard award. Meanwhile he has more actual album sales and number one songs than a lot of the artist that has enjoyed both platforms.
Including Maroon 5, Pink, Jlo, Missy Elliott and Timberlake. Plus when all artist was in their prime decade of the 2000’s Usher was the top Hot 100 artist with the most successful album of the decade.

Your talent and impact is undeniable but ever since 2008 your career has taken a dive and you’ve had trouble sustaining a presence on the charts, the super bowl bigheads want a high viewership half time show, so can you draw that big audience they are seeking?
Every mainstream superbowl act since the mid 00s had at-least some commercial relevancy when they were asked to perfom.

Same as all the old rock artist and bands that has performed. Same as DR.Dre, Snoop and Mary J when they performed. Same as Jlo and Shakira when they performed.
