Published: Friday 5th May 2023 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Aespa, Big Time Rush, Kimberly Perry, and Blusher .

Join us inside…

Aespa – I’m Unhappy

Aespa are gearing up to release their new EP ‘My World’ on May 8 and to celebrate it, they have unleashed the song ‘I’m Unhappy.’ A brutally emotional song, the lyrics are juxtaposed against a bouncing backbeat and skitters of trap influence. Showing their versatility, Aespa create a must-hear pop song with ‘I’m Unhappy.’

Big Time Rush – Waves

Big Time Rush is giving fans a taste of what is to come for their upcoming ‘Another Life’ album – due out June 9. Entitled ‘Waves,’ the song is a hip-hop-infused pop number that features lyrics like “I see myself in your eyes, eyes/ Let’s make waves.” Their most sultry song to date, the boys show off a side not seen before.

Kimberly Perry – If I Die Young Pt. 2

It’s been 13 years since The Band Perry released the groundbreaking song ‘If I Die Young’ and now lead singer Kimberly Perry is continuing the song’s story in ‘If I Die Young Pt. 2.’ Serving as the lead single for her upcoming ‘Bloom’ EP due out June 9, the song infuses a decade’s worth of living over a nostalgic chorus. With gentle strums of guitar, sorrowful fiddle, and delicate drums, the production lays the groundwork for Perry’s truly magnificent lyrical abilities to shine.

Blusher – Backbone

Australian pop group Blusher announced their new EP ‘Should We Go Dance?’ and shared the song ‘Backbone’ from the project. A fever dream of synths and pulsating grooves, Blusher unleash a post-heartbreak anthem worthy of world domination. If this is a just world, it will surely achieve that.
