Sweet love was the last thing Anita Baker was doling out Tuesday (June 6) when she took to Twitter to set the record straight about her alleged beef with current tourmate Babyface.
The Queen of Quiet Storm caused a royal frenzy among her fans when she responded to critics who called her out about reported primadonna behavior during the ongoing ‘Songstress Tour,’ which allegedly includes blocking the legendary singer-producer from opening for her at the jaunt’s Newark stop at the top of May.
Despite both acts taking to press to clear up the confusion, Baker’s still been on the receiving end of harsh criticism from concertgoers who say she is routinely late to shows and more.
Tired of the hoopla, the 65-year-old hit back at some of the detractors head on. Look inside to see what she said.
Although it wasn’t clear who Anita was talking about in her initial tweet on Monday (June 5) about “people turning on her” (seen above), some viewers took it as subliminal references to some of her headline-grabbing beefs.
One fan incorrectly called out the ‘Just Because‘ singer’s reported bad blood with Babyface and fellow R&B singer-songwriter Maxwell, while others not only agreed but went further to suggest she has a history of beef with male tourmates by referencing the well-reported 80’s feud she had with late R&B legend Luther Vandross.
She wasted no time getting them all together.
The response gained so much traction on the social media platform it led the original commenter to delete his post.

I’m sure she knows more about The Industry than the any of the FANS. No offense but I would NOT trust any man who stabs his own co-workers in the back.

Anita, did you apologize to all of the artists/producers/behind the scenes folks and worst of all FANS that you were rude and disrespectful to over the years??? Anita’s bitchy diva antics precedes her. She has a reputation of being very difficult. Everyone can’t be lying.
I don’t know who “everyone” is but all this is news to me. I’ve never heard of Anita having such a reputation in general, maybe you are thinking of one or two one-sided instances. Anita comes across as a strong-willed, say what’s on her mind, no nonsense female in the industry who is not about to take any mess, much like Aretha, Stephanie, Chaka, Dionne, and so many other legends in the industry. Sometimes that leads to the false impression that you eluded to.
Aretha presented 80’s R&B star Miki Howard with a Soul Train Award. Afterward, backstage she gave Miki a hug and whispered “keep this clean because it’s the only award you’ll ever have”. From Mikis mouth herself. Anita disrespected China McClains mother which caused a mini twitter spat. Jill Scott was supposed to perform with Anita many years ago and dropped out due to Anita’s antics. If you’re interested in hearing more a quick google search will reveal MORE. She is a nasty woman.
If ppl are paying to see Anita ONLY….why should Anita share the stage with another artist???
The FANS are getting exactly what they ask for. So I don’t see an issue unless her so called FANS are bored seeing Anita by herself.
All the arguments against Anita I’ve read so far have been extremely WEAK, and could easily be said about any artist with a loyal fan base.
It’s actually quite disrespectful to Anita since it downplays her star power. She has every right to acknowledge the fact she is a Superstar if this is indeed TRUE.
And no it’s NOT Primadonna behavior. When you reach a certain status, you can make demands the average person cannot.
So get the f*ck over it stop acting like this woman has to accept the bare minimum while other artists are living a life of luxury.
Also her FANS sound like a bunch of haters to me. I’m honestly NOT shocked many of them automatically side with MEN given the age group…. who are known for overlooking everything MEN do but scrutinize the f*ck outta women.

That’s exactly what it is. Our Community is extremely sexist. You see this with our Male & Female artists.
When I call out Female artists, I also do the same for MALES also. Like the one’s with lengthy criminal records receiving free passes while the women are criticized non stop for twerking.
Out of Miki’s mouth when? Where? I can’t find anything about that anywhere. And even if Aretha did say that it wouldn’t change my opinion about anything I said. Much worse has been said and done to stay on top, Diana and The Supremes use to steal The Labelles outfits. Patti said it made her mad back then but she now understands that they did what they felt they needed to do to compete. If Aretha tried to get in Miki’s head, so what. Athletes do it to each other all the time, it’s part of the game. Anyone who says artists don’t compete in the music industry is naive. They compete fiercely, always have. Miki had to put her big girl panties on and keep it moving.
Anita politely gathered every last one of them right together by their greased scalps. Fans need to stay out of the behind the scenes drama.
