Chart Check [Billboard 200]: Cher Makes History As ‘Christmas’ Marks Her 7th Decade of Charting & Delivers Week’s Biggest Sales for a Female

Published: Tuesday 31st Oct 2023 by Rashad

The beat goes on in more way than one for Cher.

58 years after watching her debut solo album, ‘All I Really Want to Do,’ peak at #16 on the Billboard 200, the 77-year-old Pop icon is still enjoying top 40 success on the tally thanks to her latest release.

Details inside.

Cher’s ‘Christmas’

First-Week Sales (SPS): 21,000

First-Week Sales (Pure): 20,000

First-Week Billboard Position: #32

Peruse of the updated Billboard 200 sees Cher at #32 courtesy of ‘Christmas‘ – her inaugural holiday album and first release of the decade.

Released October 20, the 13-track effort – featuring her unique take on classics like ‘Please Come Home for Christmas’ and ‘What Christmas Means to Me’ – boasts guest appearances from Stevie Wonder, Tyga, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Buble, and more and comes as the week’s overall top-selling female effort (pure sales).

Supported by the thunderous, dance-inspired first single, ‘DJ Play a Christmas Song,‘ ‘Christmas’ marks the diva’s first #1 on the Holiday Albums chart and 15th top 40 hit on the Billboard 200.

More importantly, it makes her only the second female act in history (following Barbra Streisand) to have collected a placement on the latter tally in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s.  Among all performers, only Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones can boast a similar achievement.

For a holiday album, and in general, its literally not, mariah”… not to mention , other versions are still planned to be released, along with bigger promotional schedule, including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade finale, and other performances, closer to the holidays. These are huge sales for an October release holiday album, and a with a #1 spot on the holiday chart, and #32 spot on the 200 chart, against all general releases, this is huge. I’ve never even purchased a holiday album before, and wouldnt have if it weren’t for Cher, and i doubt i’m alone in that… wait till the end of November, then speak, “Mariah”.

I see an off topic comment with a useless and brainless assessment, amazing! Literally been that way for months, so… congrats to her, but nothing to do with this post… Not even an intersting comment… You literally added nothing to the conversation. Nothing.
