It’s no trick; ‘Houdini‘ is a hit!
After years of features, standalone singles, remixes, and speciality projects (e.g. ‘Barbie‘ soundtrack), Dua Lipa sent her fans into a frenzy in October with the unexpected tease of official new music, the first of such delivered since the English hitmaker dominated charts with hits from her 2020 sophomore album ‘Future Nostalgia.’
The inaugural lift from her yet-titled third album, the Danny L. Harle and Kevin Parker-produced bop stormed real-time sales tallies the minute it landed on digital download and streaming platforms – eventually landing in the top 10 of the official charts of the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, and more.
And though it was pacing to do the same Stateside (as we reported here), ‘Houdini’ opened at #11 its inaugural week of charting on the Hot 100. Here are the numbers that powered the placement.
- Streaming ≈ 12.4 million
- Digital downloads ≈ 7,000
- Radio airplay ≈ 23.8 million
The top 15 debut not only comes as the week’s highest rung reached by a new female-led song but also the highest first-week rung Lipa’s reached in her career to date, besting the previous titleholder – ‘Sweetest Pie‘ (with Megan Thee Stallion) – which premiered and peaked at #15 in 2022.
