CMT assembled some of today’s most powerful voices to tribute the groundbreaking women in music who paved the way for them via its ‘Smashing Glass’ celebration.
The “genre-defying musical salute,” which gave a nod to women who broke records and smashed stereotypes, was recorded in Nashville at the Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in October before airing on Wednesday (November 15).
Honoring trailblazers Patti LaBelle, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Tanya Tucker, and Sinead O’Connor, big names like Ledisi, Amber Riley, Mickey Guyton, The War and Treaty, Clint Black, Chris Janson, and more assembled to deliver their takes on some of the legend’s most iconic hits.

I love me some Patty. She been here since Jesus was here, and she has not lost a single step. Still pretty, and still can throat a note. Go head, Miss Patty!
I hadn’t realized how great Patti’s voice still is. And Amber Riley… her voice was already incredible, but it’s only getting stronger and she really needs to be celebrated more.
Over the years I’ve really come to love Patti. She has so much grace and her level of talent is what we should all aspire to.
