Just a day after storming global box offices, industry analysts are predicting Beyonce‘s ‘Renaissance‘ concert film is set to do the same in movie history books as well.

‘Renaissance: A Film By Beyonce’ will reportedly earn $22-$24 million in the United States alone over its debut weekend. Global numbers are said to be between $40-$50 million.
The premiere figures are the largest to accompany any movie (regardless of genre) released in early December over the last two decades (per ‘The Hollywood Reporter‘). As of time of this report, the overall record for early December openings is held by Tom Cruise’s 2003 blockbuster ‘The Last Samurai‘ (with $24.3 million).
Among concert films, ‘Renaissance’ will undoubtedly mark the biggest premiere for any motion picture of its genre among Black women but it could be the largest for any artist of color if it lands on the north side of its predicted range.
At writing, the record for the latter belongs to King of Pop Michael Jackson whose 2009 docufilm, ‘This Is It,’ moonwalked to a cool $23.2 million opening at the box office. It went on to gross $72 million over its shelf life in theaters.
