“Jung Kook Toned It Down So He Could Keep Up”: Usher Fans Erupt After BTS Army Slam the R&B Icon’s ‘Standing Next To You’ Performance

Published: Saturday 16th Dec 2023 by Rashad

Supporters of Jung Kook and Usher‘s ‘Standing Next to You’ remix were buzzing when the sizzling tune first dropped on December 1, however – in a surprise turn of events – the December 15 unveiling of its official music video turned that celebration into competition when the fan groups turned on each other in defense of their favorite performer.

As of time of this report, the K-Pop and R&B star are sitting in the top 20 of the real-time Apple Music, iTunes, and Spotify charts of dozens of countries including the United States thanks to the remix of the former’s single ‘Standing Next To You.’

Granted, the song’s original incarnation (found aboard Jung Kook’s debut solo album ‘Golden‘) may have already been a hit by its lonesome but the addition of the ‘Burn‘ hitmaker reignited public attention so much the Andrew Watt-produced bop could be on pace to re-enter the Billboard Hot 100’s top 40 next week.

The negative side of that attention reached a feverish pitch on social media Saturday (December 16) when Usher saw his name trending to the tune of over 114,000 tweets thanks to ongoing bashing from BTS fans who suggest the 45-year-old was having difficulty “keeping up” with his 26-year-old counterpart.

When followers of the GRAMMY-winning ‘Nice & Slow’ singer tapped in to defend him, it goes without saying their responses weren’t so nice.

See highlights below.

At writing, Usher nor Jung Kook has responded to the hoopla.

This argument is dumb cause the original choreography usher can easily do since it’s also MJ inspired. Why do these obsessed fans try to put each artist against each other.

    • DOROTHY S HARPER February 11, 2024

Because alot are anti fans that have a extreme hate for BTS. That’s all it is.

These flop c**** Stan’s talk a lot of s*** as if their faves aren’t cosplays of R&B/hip hop artists of yesteryear. Usher doesn’t hit the moves like he used to because he’s middle aged now but I guarantee he’s still more authentically talented than those skin bleaching chopsticks.

    • Red Sonja December 16, 2023

Dumb N!ggur. Dark!es bleach their skin because they hate themselves.

        Usher is a flop

      • DOROTHY S HARPER February 11, 2024

It isn’t the fans. It’s actually ANTI fans of BTS. That started this stupid sh!t.

i looked at a lot of comments in various places and 99.99999999999 of kpop fans are just as excited about Usher as I’m sure Jung Kook was and the energy is beautiful in the comment section. The problem with articles that make a highlight of a comments by a few bad apples is that it gives the wrong impression about tens-of-millions of people. Similarly, I bet some of these comments below are fake to get people riled up for no reason and stir up interest. People, don’t believe the hype

Jungkook follows the original choreography, while Usher brings his unique vibe to the performance. There’s no right or wrong, and there’s no need for comparison—they both shine and are equally the best in their own ways!
Usher drew inspiration from Michael Jackson, and the song carries a distinctive MJ vibe. Having Usher contribute to it is a positive choice, considering his connection to MJ’s influence.
