Missy Elliott Surprises Tweet With Her First RIAA Single Plaque After ‘Oops Oh My’ Goes Gold

Published: Saturday 2nd Dec 2023 by Rashad

Hard to believe it’s been 21 years since we first became widely acquainted with the R&B gem that is Tweet.

Kicking off 2002 with the Timbaland-produced ‘Oops (Oh My),’ the singer’s (born Charlene Keys) soared up the Billboard Hot 100 that year (#7 peak) courtesy of the Missy Elliott-produced bop that’s become an empowerment anthem about self-love.

Helping its parent album, ‘Southern Hummingbird,’ fly even higher on the Billboard 200 at the height of its popularity (#3 peak), ‘Oops’ is undoubtedly Keys signature song and the most prized entry of her critically acclaimed discography – a position reiterated recently by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Taking to press Wednesday (November 29), the RIAA announce ‘Oops’ had flown to Gold status – meaning it’s sold the equivalence of 500,000 copies Stateside.

A milestone accomplishment for Tweet, the certification marks the first she’s received for a single in her over 20-year career. The tune’s parent project earned a similar award in 2002.

To help celebrate the achievement, Missy surprised her ‘Oops’ co-star during the latter’s sold out show at City Winery in Atlanta. Press PLAY on the video above to see the touching exchange.
